The Botanist Connecticut is NOW OPEN in Vernon! This is Vernon’s first cannabis dispensary!
The Botanist, formerly Prime Wellness of Connecticut (South Windsor), opened in the former Kidzone space at 234 Talcottville Road. The dispensary is currently open for medical sales only. Recreational sales are expected to begin eventually once they are approved at this location. Poké Sushi is coming soon to Vernon! The Poke restaurant will be located at 129 Talcottville Road, next to Verizon & Taco Bell! The food is descibed as a combination of traditional sushi and Hawaiian-style poké to serve fresh-daily fish, premium sauces and top-notch ingredients in a way that’s fast, convenient, and (of course) delicious. The restaurant plans to open their doors in March! The restaurant is in the final phases of construction! Poke Sushi has an existing location open at State House Square in Hartford! The exterior of the building is nearly complete! Both businesses are expected to open this spring/summer. Our earlier post reads: "Hartford HealthCare & GoHealth Urgent Care plan to open a new urgent care center in the new Starbucks outparcel at Valley Farm Shopping Center in Ellington! The new urgent care center will occupy over 3,000 square feet on the soon-to-be constructed building. The center will join the plaza's lineup with Big Y World Class Market, McDonald's, BrightPath Ellington, Force Fitness CT, Lucky Nails, and Liquor World. There are two remaining vacancies in the plaza; a nearly 10,000 square foot space once home to Dollar Tree, and a 1,500 square foot space in the soon-to-be built building." Salvation Army Family Store in Vernon will be closing their doors! The thrift store is currently 50% inventory while it lasts! We’ve reached out to the manager of the store for comment. The store opened in the space in 2014, the store previously had a location in Rockville at 166 Union Street. This store along with a location in Manchester merged into this new large location. The space was once home to a Namco Pool Store. No final closing date has been given. The store is located at 295 Hartford Turnpike; in the KMart Plaza. Finally got to try out Vernon’s newest coffee shop, called Radial Coffee Company! It was great! The coffee shop is beautiful with a roaster on site!
I tried the ginger-maple latte, very delicious, tasted like if a gingerbread man was from Vermont! Definitely recommend it! Holiday Pizza Restaurant in Ellington will be moving from their longtime location at 12 Main Street to 117 West Road!
The pizza shop will occupy the former Pizzeria Davinci space. The space has been vacant for years. New signage is up at the location, with interior renovations now underway. Look for them to open later this year! The Learning Experience is coming soon to Vernon! We previously reported that the daycare chain would be built next to Dollar General on Talcottville Road; the building is now under construction!
The daycare center will open late spring /early summer; its address will be 420 Talcottville Road. The business is a franchise; and is currently still for sale! Ellington Hometown Pizza has been sold! The new owners took control of the restaurant a few days ago and plan big changes!
The new owners will change the name from Hometown Pizza to Cooley’s Kitchen! The menu will consist of similar items to now, but will expand their catering offerings and in-person dining! The restaurant will be closed on Tuesday 01/16 and reopen on Wednesday at Cooley’s Kitchen! The restaurant is located at 175 West Road in Meadowview Plaza. The former owners of Hometown also own JRego's Gathering Place a few doors down! Make sure to check them out as well!

The business will be moving from South Windsor; where it is currently called Prime Wellness of Connecticut. The company is still waiting for their license to transfer to the new location. The dispensary will begin as Medical only; but plans to open to recreational sales eventually. The new Dollar General store is well under construction in Rockville! The new store will be located at 37 East Main Street!
The new store replaced two vacant buildings, once home to Bank of America and Vincent Pharmacy. Both buildings were torn down to make way for this new building. The new store is expected to open in February! Will you shop here? Comment below! 
Courant Community, a free edition of the Hartford Courant, will publish its last edition next week according to a report from Patch Media. The free-newspaper will cease publication after their January 18th edition according to employees at the newspaper.
Courant Communtiy began in 2015 when The Hartford Courant purchased Vernon-based Reminder Media, a newspaper started in 1949. The paper represents the last remnants of Reminder Media. News of the paper's demise was not confirmed by the media conglomerate Tribune Publishing, owner of the Hartford Courant and over a hundred other papers nationwide. Former staff we quick to comment on the closure. The last update on their Facebook page was a month ago. |
