A new retro store is coming to Vernon!
Cruzn Retro is coming soon to 500 Talcottville Road! The store will be located in the plaza with Racks, Dog Essentials, and Legendary Looks Barbershop. The space was previously home to John Thomas Treasures Consignment Store. Cruzn Retro sells all things Retro. Everything from the 80's, 90's early 2000's including action figures, video games, toys, Pokémon, vintage items, and more. The store has an existing location in Glastonbury at 3011 Main Street. No opening date for the new Vernon location was immediately available.

A new Halal market and Lebanese bakery are coming to the Vernon Circle. Signs have now been installed for the new business along with a new 'Villa of Lebanon' sign on the Anthony's building.
The new market and bakery are now under construction and will occupy 2 vacant spaces next to Anthony's at 216 Hartford Turnpike in Vernon. The 2 spaces were formerly home to Wraith Engraving & Awards and The Tattoo Parlor. Wraith Engraving & Awards relocated to 538 Talcottville Road and The Tattoo Parlor (look for a post on their new location soon) relocated to 352 Hartford Turnpike. The new market will be owned by Anthony's/Villa of Lebanon, a fully Halal restaurant located at the Vernon Circle. An opening date has not been scheduled. Construction recently started on the combining the space and building out the market. Villa of Lebanon in South Windsor purchased Anthony's in August; adding Lebanese cuisine to the menu of Italian favorites. The restaurant removed alcohol and pork products from the menu, opting for turkey based ham and pepperoni. The menu is now Halal. Demolition will soon begin on the former Denny’s at Tri City Plaza in Vernon! The current restaurant building will be demolished and in its place a new 7 Brew coffee shop will be built.
A construction fence and equipment are now surrounding the building. Demolition should begin in the next week or so. With site work to begin after. The new coffee shop will be feature the chain’s signature prefabricated 510 square foot building; supplemented by a 230 square foot cooler and storage building attached by a canopy. 7 Brew Coffee is a viral drive-thru only coffee shop that has become increasingly popular from videos on Tiktok. The coffee shops are pre-fabricated building with a unique shape that draws customers in. The iconic structure features neon blue around the roof of the building. The shop serves a number of beverages including 'The 7 Originals', coffee flavors like blondie, brunette, smooth 7, white chocolate mocha, cinnamon roll, german chocolate, and sweet & salty. The shop also features 7 Energy (an iced energy drink with numerous flavors), smoothies, milkshakes, teas, lemonades, 7 Fizz (sparkling water with any flavor), cold brew, and classic espresso and coffee drinks. 7 Brew has one existing Connecticut location in Wallingford that opened last year. They are planning another CT location in Orange and are scouting for additional sites throughout the State. Denny’s closed their doors in October 2022 and the building has sat vacant ever since. The Vernon Motel, formerly Days Inn/Howard Johnson, is being pitched for conversion to housing.
The motel is located at 451 Hartford Turnpike in Vernon and is currently owned by DW Fish. The parcel also includes the adjacent Vernon Diner and American Eagle FCU buildings. A site plan of development was recently submitted to the Town on Tuesday for the proposed conversion, exterior changes include new lighting, fencing, and landscaping. The conversion will only affect the motel portion of the property. The development is expected to bring in 65 studio/one bedrooms apartments according to documents submitted to the town. Messages to DW Fish and the architect were not returned. The project is still early in the process and is still subject to all local approvals. A planning and zoning meeting date was not immediately available. Stay tuned for more information! Jersey Mike's plans to open their new Vernon location next Wednesday, January 29th!
The new sandwich shop will be located at 35 Talcottville Road in Vernon, in the small strip center. The shop will be located between H&R Block and Lenscrafters, the former Weight Watchers space. The new sandwich shop is planned to open in the coming months. They will join other new tenants including Birdcode, 7Brew (coming soon), Paymore Electronics (coming soon), Shah’s Halal (coming soon) and Icon Kitchen & Bath (opening soon!) *Date could changing based on last minute issues* No Coast Taqueria has set their grand opening date for their new Ellington restaurant! The restaurant will officially open on February 4th at 11am!
The Mexican restaurant will be located at 12 Main Street in Ellington, the former Holiday Pizza space behind Kloter Farms (Holiday moved next to Casey's Cafe.) The restaurant has completely renovated the space to be a new modern taqueria! The restaurant started after the owner's got married in 2020; the humble beginning as a street food vendor utilizing a hotdog cart. The business has grown a following, and has hosted kitchen take-overs, including at Luann's Bakery & Cafe back in March. A fully-approved development is Vernon has been put on the market!
A 24.5 acre parcel of land at 14 Hyde Avenue in Vernon/Rockville has been put on the market. The parcel of land is fully approved for a new 174 multi-family development. No asking price was provided with the listing. The site is located behind Lafayette Square in Rockville; home to Dunkin, Subway, John Boyle Decorating Centers, Lafayette Wine & Liquors, and others. After years of site work and foundation construction, the site is a flurry of activity.
The project has been under construction for a while; with a lot of site work complete in the past few years. The project recently went vertical with framing of the new structure nearly complete in a matter of days! The site is planned to house APH Hair Stylist; when the project was first proposed in 2020, the site was to be salon suites. I’ve attached a rendering of the building when it was first proposed. 346 Gastropub has closed its doors in Vernon.
The Gastropub was located at 346 Kelly Road in Vernon; replacing the short-lived Frankie B’s Tavern. 346 Gastropub opened in September of 2024 under the management of Chef Frank Lepri. The restaurant posted ‘We are closed’ on their Google profile, updated their status to permanently closed, and their website is now offline. We will keep you updated if the restaurant reopens or pivots to a new concept and name. A new Halal market is planned for Vernon!

The building, along with a small house in the rear, will be demolished to make way for a new commercial plaza! The property will be combined with the former Pancho Loco property and a new 20,000 +\- square foot place built in its place. Lazy Liquors is expected to reopen in the new plaza once construction is complete. The new plaza will be owned by Jagdev Toor. Toor owns Toor Wine & Liquor in Windsor, along with the Botanist building, the former Samuel LTD Tux building and others. Tri City Plaza is seeking approval to demolish the former Denny's building in the plaza! The building will be demolished along with the foundation, parking, and sidewalks to make way for a new drive-thru restaurant.
7 Brew Coffee will be built in their spot. The site will be prepped and a pre-fabricated coffee shop will be dropped into place! The coffee house will be drive-thru only; no interior or walk-up window. The building will be just 511 square feet, with a detached storage building. The restaurant will be owned by Sharon & Manraj Parmar and Kiran & Rohan Kapoor. The restaurant is located at 295 Hartford Turnpike, the former Wang’s Buffet space in Ocean State Job Lot Plaza. The restaurant opened earlier this month, moving from their longtime home in East Hartford. I order the Pechuga a la Plancha; a grilled chicken breast, salad, rice, and fries. It was delicious! My friend got the Bistec a lo Pobre; steak, salad, sweet plantains, rice, and fries. All things said, it was an enjoyable experience, good food, and friendly staff. I do hope they add some more authentic Peruvian decor down the road (they’re still adding to the space); but definitely worth a visit! Make sure you try them out! Vernon has a new boutique!
Above All Boutique & Design, LLC is now open in Vernon, on the Manchester line. The new shop is located at 49 Tolland Turnpike. The shop’s soft opening was on November 23rd from 10am-2:30pm. They will be open next Saturday (Small Business Saturday) from 10am-2:30pm! They are a custom design boutique, formerly only online, and now this is their first in person experience. The store sells made to order designs on apparel, drinkware , and many accessories. They offer a mix of local handmade products and small scale vendor product with a focus on casual boutique clothing. The owners are Deon and Angelica, a husband and wife team with three young daughters. They have a passion for creative empowerment and local pride! Make sure you check them out! Calito Development Group, a Torrington-based developer, is proposing the construction of a new 10,640 square foot retail building at 175 West Road, across from Meadowview Plaza. The undeveloped farm land would be host to the new retail building and associated parking lot. The group is currently seeking Wetlands approval. A meeting is scheduled for Monday night. Calito Development Group and Garrett Homes (another Torrington-based developer listed in the documents) are serial Dollar General developers. They both have dozens of Dollar Generals under their belt including locations in Manchester, Vernon, Enfield, Coventry, and many others. Plans are still subject to all local approvals. The new facility will be located at 10 Pitkin Road, the former Sears Hardware next to Stop & Shop. The facility will feature 8 full size courts, 1 dink court, 2 golf simulators, a bar with small bites, and an arcade. They hope to open next weekend! Subject to Fire Marshal approval. DiFiore Ravioli Shop - Ellington is located at 287 Somers Road in Ellington.
The shop makes their own pastas, raviolis, sauces, Sicilian Pizza, and other prepared foods from their historic building. The Italian Specialty market originated from Hartford's Little Italy before opening in Rocky Hill (now Ani's) and opening a new flagship store in Ellington in 2021. The coffee shop has officially opened the doors of their new Ellington location at 135 West Road! The coffee shop is located in a new multi-tenant building in front of Big Y. Starbucks is open daily from 5am-9pm. The shop features an interior cafe, mobile ordering, outdoor patio, and drive thru. Check them out! The former Samuel LTD. The property was sold to 295 Talcottville Road LLC on September 3rd according to town records. The recorded value of the sale was $1.1 million. The principal of 295 Talcottville Road LLC is South Windsor businessman Jagdev Toor. Jagdev Toor owns Toor Wine & Liquor in Windsor, owns 234 Talcottville Road (home to The Botanist), and is in the process of building a new plaza on the site of Pancho Loco's and Lucky Liquors (Toor's other liquor store.) The 15,000 square foot building has been put back up for lease. The space features 10,000 square feet of retail space and a 5,000 square foot contractor space in the basement. Jersey Mike’s will be located at Tri-City Plaza at 35 Talcottville Road. The sandwich shop will replace Weight Watcners, located between LensCrafters and H&R Block. The sandwich shop will occupy 2,000 square feet. Tri-City Plaza is quickly become a food destination in Vernon. The plaza has added Birdcode Hot Chicken to their line up; and will soon add 7Brew Coffee, Shah's Halal, and Jersey Mikes to the lineup! Look for them to open later this year! The Trophy Shop is now Wraith Engraving & Awards and has a new home!

The soul food restaurant closed suddenly this summer with no official announcement whether it was a temporary closure or permanent.
Owner Craig Wright said in a comment asking if he’d open in another spot “who’s (sic) knows. But it wouldn’t be there and I wouldn’t do it alone.” The owner and eatery were praised in recent years for his community involvement; including serving Thanksgiving dinner to those in need. The owner was recently induced into the ‘100 Men of Color.’ The soul food restaurant was located at 13 West Main Street in Rockville. -Toby's of East Hartford is coming soon to Vernon! -346 Gastropub will have their grand opening on September 4th according to their website! The gastropub replaces Frankie B's Tavern at 346 Kelly Road, the former Angellino's. The pub will be managed by Chef Frank Lepri, formerly of Trattoria de Lepri and Lepri Burger Bar in Ellington. The restaurant describes itself as 'Serving delicious, high-quality food in a casual, relaxed atmosphere. Of course paired with thoughtful craft cocktails, spirits, & beer from national and local breweries' -Anthony's has new owners! The longtime pizza place has been sold to the Husseini family of South Windsor! The family now operates the restaurant alongside their other restaurant, Villa of Lebanon on John Fitch Boulevard in South Windsor. The owners have added some of Villa of Lebanon's menu to Anthony's menu but have removed pork and beer from the menu. No timeline has been announced for the opening. -BIRDCODE is now open at Tri City Plaza! The hot chicken restaurant is now open at 35 Talcottville Road, in the former Papa Gino’s at Tri City Plaza! The restaurant serves Nashville Hot Chicken, crispy & grilled chicken sandwiches, chicken bites, salads. Sandwiches come in different heat levels including Code Breaker, Hot, Medium, Mild, and Country Style (the most mild,) The menu has sides including fries, cheese fries, coleslaw, and mac & cheese. Their dessert offerings include banana pudding and cookies! -7Brew Coffee has officially submitted plans for a new Vernon location! The drive-thru coffee shop is proposed to be located at Tri-City Plaza. The chain would demolish the former Denny's building; and in its place construct a new 510 square foot building. The coffee chain would have their pre-fabricated building supplemented by a 230 square foot cooler and storage building attached by a canopy. -Paradise Pizza & Family Restaurant is coming soon to 575 Talcottville Road! The new pizza place will replace the former Xpress Pizza. Xpress Pizza closed quietly earlier this year. The pizza place will be owned by Rudy V Castaneda, Jamil A Mendita Romero, and Gall H Mendieta Vintimilla according to business filings last month; the pair owns Somers Pizza as well. |
