Stubborn Beauty Brewing has announced they will permanently close on February 2nd. The brewery is located at 180 Johnson Street in Middletown, CT.
The brewery opened in 2014 in the Old Remington Rand Facility in Middletown, just a stone’s throw away from Downtown. The brewery featured a variety of beer styles including NE/Hazy IPA, Saison, Double IPA, Barley Wine, Imperial Stouts, Brown Ale, Belgian Pale Ale, Old Ale, and Milk Stout. The brewery issued the following message: “We were going to say with great sadness, but that’s not true - it’s with great memories that we were always able to brew what we chose to and beyond humbled that you all actually enjoyed what went from our minds, to paper and eventually into your glass. Stubborn will be closing its doors on Feb 2nd. We will be open today, Saturday Feb 1st, and Sunday Feb 2nd. A lot of the original crew will be working the last day and we’d love to raise a glass in appreciation to all of you for making this a fantastic ten year long chapter in this crazy book. Respect, From everyone who played a part in our story” The past few years have been brutal for the craft brewery industry, with many locally owned breweries shutting their doors. Some notable recently announced closures include Problem Solved Brewing Company, Thimble Island Brewing Company in Old Saybrook (Branford will remain), Great Falls Brewing Company and many others.

Problem Solved Brewing Company has announced the closing of their brewery at the end of March.
The brewery is located at 2 North Road, Unit 4, in East Windsor; the rear part of Sofia's Plaza. The brewery originally opened in October 2019 replacing Broad Brook Brewing before the relocated to Suffield. Problem Solved features a rotating list of drafts, New England IPA, New England Pale Ale, Ginger Bread Stout, Stout, ESB, and Honey Kolsch. The tap also had products from other breweries including Athletic Brewing Co, Stafford Cidery (look for a post on them soon), Waypoint Spirits, and Kirby Mill Winery. The brewery cites the challenges of balancing full-time jobs, family, and the demands of the brewery as the main reason for the closure. The brewery plans to stay open as usual through the end of March. The brewery's closing announcement reads: It is with a heavy heart and deep gratitude that we announce the closing of Problem Solved. After much consideration, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to close our doors. Many factors have gone into our decision but mainly the balancing of our full time jobs, family and the demands of the brewery have become increasingly challenging. That coupled with the uncertain economy, changing market and signing of a lengthy lease just doesn’t make sense on paper at this time. From the very beginning, our mission was simple: to craft exceptional beers and create a welcoming space where community, friends, and families could come together to share laughter, stories, and unforgettable moments. It has been an honor to serve you, and to be a part of so many of your lives. Over the six years, we’ve had the privilege of seeing friendships form, celebrations take place, and memories made right here in our taproom. Your support has meant more to us than words can express. As we close this chapter, we want to express our deepest gratitude for your patronage. We will forever cherish the experiences we’ve shared with each and every one of you. The love and support you’ve shown has kept us going, and for that, we are truly thankful. We are also very thankful for our awesome staff, when you visit please thank them all for their hard work and dedication. We certainly could not have done this without them, they are the faces you see each and every time you visit. We know they will miss you all as well. We will be targeting to stay open, business as usual, through the end of March. We will let you know if things change. We look forward to seeing where life’s next chapter takes us, and we will forever carry the memories of our time here with us. Thank you again for your unwavering support. You’ve made this journey one we’ll never forget. We hope to share many more pints before we close, so please continue to stop in until then. Our company mission statement was simple, "Make Great Beer!". We think we accomplished that goal. We also had a tagline that guided who we were as a company, and that is "Community. Beer. Life." We donated over $30,000 to many of our local community non-profits. We contributed to our local daycares, our schools, our social services, we helped a local runner to achieve her fund-raising goal so she could run the Boston marathon, we helped another local student fly to England to attend a soccer camp with Arsenal football, and so many other wonderful stories that we have been very proud to be a part of. As with so many good stories, the Great Falls Brewing Company story is coming to an end. We had a damn good run. We enjoyed the many times we were together with all of you whether at a festival, in the brewery making beer, at your establishment, or just chatting late into the night at the taproom. To all our staff from every era of the company. We only have positive things to say about the people who have worked for Great Falls. They all gave it their all, and we’re proud to say that they were always more than employees, they were family. A special shout out thanks to a couple of our OG staff Matt, Erin, Caroline, and Jay. To Jonas, Mel, and Steph for those middle COVID years, we gutted out some tough times. With Lime Rock Park, we put on a killer beer festival. Guys, Thank you! And to all our current staff Melissa (off to Kinsmen), Jon (the old man of the crew), Byron, Matt, Kiera, Kara, Amie, and Alec thank you for being the best taproom crew around. We certainly couldn't have made it without you. We will remain open till December 31st. If you planned a party or get-togethers, we’re still here for you. Over the holidays come grab that last case of Lazy, you have three weeks, and then it will be all gone. Also, please join us for our 6th anniversary this Saturday (12/14) and the farewell 80s party on Tuesday the 31st. Mug club members, remember there’s a party on Dec. 20th for you starting at 6pm. We’d love to see all those members of the industry, who have been long standing friends. Let us know when you’re coming up. The brewery is located at 942 Main Street in Hartford. The last day will be March 31st.
The brewery opened in 1980 as Brown Thomson in a historic-brown stone building in Downtown Hartford. The brewery has become a staple of the city, and distributes its famous 'Naughty Nurse' IPA to restaurants and bars throughout Connecticut. The beer will continue to be distributed after the Hartford taproom closure. The brewery said in a statement: 'It is with humble gratitude and a heavy heart that we announce the closing of City Steam Brewery on March 31- after 44 years in business (26 as City Steam and 18 as Brown Thomson and Company). We opened in 1980 as Brown Thomson and Company, carving out a space in the newly renovated historic circa 1877 HH Richardson Building, regarded as the most famous example of Romanesque Architecture in America. We created an interior area with 5 flights of stairs on two levels with a fifty-foot ceiling, including original wrought iron railings salvaged from the dumpsters as fast as the landlord could fill them. We then filled the space with Victorian antiques with period tin ceilings throughout. We brought new life to downtown. We were packed from the time the doors opened until they closed seven days a week for years. Our 100-item menu was almost impossible to put out, but we did it with speed and flair. Our bartenders had to pass a 100+ item drink test before they could blend their first Banana Split! The Brew Ha Ha Comedy Club soon followed in the lower level. In 1997 we had the vision to open a brewery, so we converted BT to City Steam, the second brewery/pub in CT (now there are over 130!). City Steam was named after our source of power, which is the steam that runs below the streets of Harford. Our Staff- We give thanks to the thousands and thousands of wonderful loyal staff members that made us the most fun place to work in downtown Hartford for over 4+ decades! Working at 942 Main Street was a steppingstone to success in life for many as they learned how to work hard and treated customers as they wanted to be treated. Our customers-It has been a pleasure and honor serving the greater Hartford community all these years! You trusted us with your most treasured events: Birthday celebrations, graduation dinners, first dates, marriage proposals (!), engagement parties-the list goes on and on! Come back over the next two weeks with your wife/ husband or a good friend you met here and enjoy some casual food or a comedy show in the Brew Hall Ha (circa 1987), or just come by for a cold Naughty Nurse! We will continue to distribute our craft beers at over 1500 grocery and liquor stores, and bars/restaurants throughout Connecticut. A special thanks to the City of Hartford for their efforts in supporting the downtown restaurant scene and for working to help us get back up and running, but we could not recover from the aftereffects of a 4-month half million-dollar closure due to a burst sprinkler pipe and the resultant flood. We have had an incredible run, but it is now time to hand the reigns over to another talented and creative restaurateur. This iconic space at the head of the rejuvenated Pratt Street Historic district is ripe with opportunity. We are looking for a restaurateur who may have an interest in buying the business and putting in a new concept- brewery or not- in our incredible 150+ year old historic structure. If you have an interest or know someone who may have an interest, have them contact: [email protected].
