Paddle Creek Beer Company in East Hartford will permanently close their doors on September 28th. The brewery is located at 1277 Main Street in East Hartford, the brewery opened in 2020. The brewery renovated a vacant warehouse space into a cozy brewery with a large outdoor patio. The brewery said in a statement post on their Facebook: "First and foremost, Thank You to all our customers, friends, loved ones, vendors and all that were involved in the journey of Paddle Creek. Our mission was to create an atmosphere that was welcoming, produce beers that were enjoyable from the first sip to the last and to build friendships with the people we met along this journey. From that perspective, we are proud of what we accomplished and hope that you felt welcome when you visited. Unfortunately, the journey for Paddle Creek has come to an end and it saddens us to say that we will close our doors and serve our last beer on Saturday September 28th. We will however be open during our normal hours up until that final hour as well as holding some events to give us the opportunity to connect with our customers a few more times and say Thank You. Hopefully you can visit us soon so we can Thank You in person for your support. There is a new distillery in Waterbury, Connecticut Distilling is NOW OPEN at 2066 Thomaston Avenue in Waterbury!
The distillery replaces Continuum, a distillery launched in March of 2020 at the same location. Everything is different from the previous venture except head-distiller Brandon Collins, he is a chemist by trade. The distillery has a number of liquors created from beer from local breweries including Charred (made from porters, stouts, and brown ales), Drops (made from IPAs), Fort Hill Small Batch Bourbon, and Waterville Vodka. Barley Head Brewery has been sold! The brewery was located at 12 Water Street in Mystic.
The brewery has been sold to George and Tim for a new brewery called Misfit Club. The brewery will be renovated and still brew Barley Head Beers. The brewery said in a statement on their Facebook page: "Exciting Update. After seven wonderful years running Barley Head, we are excited to share the news that George and Tim of the Misfit Club have purchased the brewery. They are currently renovating the space and it will reopen soon under the name Misfit Club, while still brewing your favorite BHB beers. We would like to extend thanks to so many people, especially our wonderful customers, beertenders and employees, artists of the month and the community of merchants in Mystic. Quirk Works Brewing & Blendery will be closing their doors this weekend. The brewery is located at 78 Triangle Street in Danbury. The brewery is located at 942 Main Street in Hartford. The last day will be March 31st. The brewery opened in 1980 as Brown Thomson in a historic-brown stone building in Downtown Hartford. The brewery has become a staple of the city, and distributes its famous 'Naughty Nurse' IPA to restaurants and bars throughout Connecticut. The beer will continue to be distributed after the Hartford taproom closure. The brewery said in a statement: 'It is with humble gratitude and a heavy heart that we announce the closing of City Steam Brewery on March 31- after 44 years in business (26 as City Steam and 18 as Brown Thomson and Company). We opened in 1980 as Brown Thomson and Company, carving out a space in the newly renovated historic circa 1877 HH Richardson Building, regarded as the most famous example of Romanesque Architecture in America. We created an interior area with 5 flights of stairs on two levels with a fifty-foot ceiling, including original wrought iron railings salvaged from the dumpsters as fast as the landlord could fill them. We then filled the space with Victorian antiques with period tin ceilings throughout. We brought new life to downtown. We were packed from the time the doors opened until they closed seven days a week for years. Our 100-item menu was almost impossible to put out, but we did it with speed and flair. Our bartenders had to pass a 100+ item drink test before they could blend their first Banana Split! The Brew Ha Ha Comedy Club soon followed in the lower level. The new brewery is located in the former home of Firefly Hollow Brewing in the old factory building. The new spot is described as a ‘brewing incubator’ where brewers can try out small batches of beer! The brewery had their soft opening last weekend and poured over 500 beers! Congratulations! Tox Brewing Company will be moving their brewery to 123 Banks Street in New London! Tox Brewing Company is currently located in a 1,400 square foot space at 635 Broad Street in New London. The new space is nearly 10 times the size of their current location. The new space will have a kitchen featuring pizza and more. Tox was founded in 2019, and has quickly become a fan favorite in town! The brewery describes itself as 'Delicately Crafted. Dangerously Drinkable.' Make sure to check them out! The campus has been expanded with Two Roads Tee Box, a new indoor virtual golf simulator center! The center is located at 1625 Stratford Ave in Stratford, CT. The Tee Box joins the growing Two Roads campus including the main brewery, Area 2 (Experimental Brewing Tasting Room), and the Food Hall! After almost 13 years in this space, it will be a difficult transition, but both my wife and I feel it is time to downsize and focus on Mikro Depot. We want to thank all the employees and amazing guests who have been there through good times and difficult times. We will be wrapping up in the next few weeks and hope you all get a chance to stpo by, share a drink, memory, or meal as we end an amazing run. Back East Brewing Company in Bloomfield will debut their new kitchen next week! Back East is located at 1296 Blue Hills Avenue.
The Kitchen @ Back East will open on January 10th at Back East Brewery! The restaurant will feature local ingredients, and will incorporate the brewery's hops and malts into the menu items. Back East is the most recent brewery to replace the rotating food trucks with their own kitchen. Labyrinth Brewing Company, Urban Lodge Brewing, Little Red Barn Brewers, and Two Roads Brewing Company have all added kitchens in the last year. Hop & Vine Taproom will officially open their doors on Wednesday, January 3rd, at 5:00pm! The taproom features self-pour technologies on the 69 different taps!
The array of taps features Connecticut-based craft beers, global wines, ciders, and seltzers as well as nitro coffee, kombucha and in-house, crafted mocktails! The self-pour allows you to pour as little or as much as you want! You can try a bit of everything! The taproom is located at 30 Spring Street in Stamford, CT! Check them out! We are getting our first look at the new Elicit Brewing in Fairfield! The brewery will feature many distinctive areas like their Manchester location! The brewery will be located at 111 Black Rock Turnpike. The brewery will have the typical beer-hall style area, game cove / arcade, a speak-easy cocktail lounge, a space called The Pub, a space called The Snugs, a space called the Tap-Hall, and a large outdoor patio. The brewery will occupy over 25,000 square feet that was once home to Planet Fitness and Tumble Jungle (later Playhouse Gym.) Look for them to open next year! 
Drink Mechanics will be opening a location in Hartford! The canned cocktail brand will be opening a distillery/tasting room/bar inside Statehouse Square! The bar will feature a full bar, restaurant, and live music according to a statement on their website.
The new business willl occupy the 8,000 square foot former Morton's The Steakhouse, which closed in 2015. No timeline has been announced for the business, though demolition work on the former steakhouse has started. Drink Mechanics started in 2020 with an ice cream truck, a catering license, and liquor delivery becoming legal! The brand created cocktails in a can, featuring flavors like Strawberry Fields, Christopher Oaxacan, Spa Water, Love It When Ya Call Me Big Papaya, and Bourbon Legend. A new brewery is planned for Meriden! The new brewery would be built on a vacant lot at 701 Research Parkway. A new 16,000 square foot building would be constructed for the new brewery.
The owner of the new venture is Dominick DeMartino, a serial developer in Connecticut! The new brewery would be modeled after Tree House Brewing in Massachusetts. The site is overlooked by Interstate 91, and features a picturesque pond. The plan is still subject to local and State approvals. No timeline has been announced for the opening of the facility. -
