New redevelopment coming for the former Reid & Hughes building in Downtown Norwich! The site will soon be home to retail and market-rate apartments.
The plans are to restore the existing building; creating 17 apartments in the upper levels of the building and creating a first floor retail space in the former department store space. A ground breaking for the project was held this morning. The building dates back to 1888, and was the home of Reid & Hughes Department Store for over 100 years; the building has sat vacant for decades after the business closed in 1995. The project has received grants towards its redevelopment including a $550,000 brownfield grant through The Norwich Community Development Corporation.
