Sugo Trattoria in Farmington is up for sale. The Italian restaurant is located at 1274 Farmington Avenue in Farmington.
The restaurant opened in October of 2023, replacing Toro Loco (an earlier concept from the same owner.) The building was home to Wood & Tap for years before they moved to a larger location up the street. The restaurant is listed for sale on BizBuySell for $99,000 with a lease expiration of 2034. The reason for the sale is to focus on the owner's other restaurant in West Hartford. It's unclear when or if the restaurant will reopen. We've reached out to the restaurant for comment and haven't heard back. The IHOP planned for New London has been cancelled according to a notice send to contractors.
The IHOP restaurant was planned to open at 305 North Frontage Road in New London, the former Restaurant Junction / Shaking Crab restaurant. The plans for the restaurant hinged upon the approval of cutting the property taxes for the property. The tax cuts were not approved. The chain will continue to look for other possible sites in the New London / Groton area. There is always the possibility that the chain could return to the site if a deal could be negotiated. The cookie shop is planning to open their doors at 247 Asylum Street in Hartford, CT. The restaurant will occupy a 1,613 square foot space formerly home to Ticket World. The store will transform the space into a little cookie shop. Insomnia is a fast-growing chain of cookie shops throughout the country. The chain has 2 locations in Connecticut; including New Haven and Storrs. The chain is known for their creative flavors, cookies baked fresh, and delivered until 3am everyday! The chain is expected to open the location later this year, as early as this fall. A pickleball and padelball club is coming soon to Branford!
Smash Padel and Pickle Club is coming soon to 61 East Industrial Road in Branford. The new 21,760 square foot building will feature 6 pickleball courts, 2 padel ball courts, 2 outdoors courts, food and beverages, and lounge spaces! Membership for the facility can be purchased on their website https://smashclub.us/ A 3 year membership for the facility is currently going for $3200, not including the court rental fees. A month membership is $100, not including the court rental fees. Pickleball courts are planned to cost $50 an hour, and Padelball is planned to cost $100 an hour. The facility is planned to open in Winter 2024, construction is well underway on the space. The building will be co-owned by Sam Markle, co-founder of Hinding Padel Construction. Hinding Padel Construction is one of the leading pickleball and tennis court builders in the Northeast! The sport craze has taken over Connecticut with many new facilities popping up around the state! Pickleball America in Stamford is one of the largest facility in the country, The Sports Haus in Norwalk recently opened hosting pickleball, padelball, and golf simulators. New facilities are planned throughout the state including Dill Dinkers Pickleball in Simsbury, The Pickleball Place in Vernon, Pickleball Smash-it at Tanger Outlets, Foxwoods, Pickleball Spot in Orange, NextGen in Newington, and many more! Loren's Cozy Corner will be opening their doors on August 1st! The store will sell custom embroidery, seasonal apparel, decor, custom jewelry, candles, and beach-themed house decor! The store will be located in suite D102, and joins other new stores including Kaleidoscope LLC and ReBorn House Fabric Outlet. The outlet mall is still in the planning and approvals process of a redevelopment. The outlet mall plans to break ground on the project in summer 2025. Two new tenants are planned for Townline Square in Meriden!
-Bubbakoo's Burritos is coming soon to the plaza! The burrito chain will be opening in a 1,748 square foot space between Cost Cutters and New England Dental. The menu features a tacos, quesadillas, nachos, salads, and build-your-own burritos line similar to Moe’s and Chipotle; but with more innovated sauces and toppings. The menu also has curly fries, fried Oreos, fried cauliflower, boneless wings, and more. They has 4 existing locations in Connecticut including Stamford, Orange, Oxford, and Norwalk: a new location is planned for North Haven as well. -Carters OshKosh B'Gosh is planning to open a new location in the former Avenue space next to Old Navy. The store would occupy 5,968 square feet of space. Building permits were issued for the tenant fit out of the space at the end of May. An opening timeline was not immediately available. These are just the latest additions to the shopping plaza! The center has seen an uptick in leasing including the new Barnes & Noble that opened earlier this year, and Old Navy which opened last year. The Shed Restaurant is now hiring for their new restaurant at Mohegan Sun! The restaurant will open very soon in the Casino of the Earth!

Stay tuned for an opening date for The Shed and Beauty & Essex! Cat Cafes are the newest trend around the country. At least three new cat cafes are planned for Connecticut!
A cat cafe is a coffee shop with a separate lounge with cats. The lounge is usually stocked with cats available for adoption, patrons can grab a coffee and spend some time with cats. The space is great for animal therapy and to promote the adoption of abandoned cats. The food preparation spaces are completely separate from the cat space. -Marcie’s Angels Cat Cafe is coming soon to 3039 Main Street in Glastonbury. The cafe will be opening on August 15th. The cafe is partnered with Protectors of Animals, they will showcase cats from the organization for adoption. -Perk and Paws Cat Cafe is coming soon to 100 Franklin Street in Torrington! An opening date has not been set; but the stayed they hope to open in late August. The cafe officially took possession of their space earlier this month. -Enfield Community Cat Project is planning to open their own cat cafe in Enfield! The organization is a registered non-profit organization. They have not finalized a location for the cafe, but hope for a fall 2025 opening! These will join the 3 existing cat cafes in Connecticut including All the Single Kitties in Old Saybrook, Two Wrasslin' Cats Coffee House in East Haddam, and Mew Haven Cat Cafe in New Haven. Lululemon is coming soon to Darien Commons!
The atheleisure brand will be opening a new pop-up store later this year at the mixed-use development! The store is expected to have an 11 month residency at the development. Lululemon will occupy near 4,000 square feet next to Solidcore. Lululemon is just one of the new brands planned for the development including Cosmo's Bagels, Zen Cha Matcha, and Bare Burger. The store will be Lululemon's 6th store in Connecticut behind Westfarms, New Haven, Westport, Danbury, and Greenwich. The chain is currently building out a new store to replace their current location at Westfarms Mall. Funcity Adventure Park is NOW OPEN in Rocky Hill! The new adventure park has opened at 30 Waterchase Drive, the former Porter & Chester facility right off the Silas Deane!

The chain has other locations in Bristol, Derby, East Hartford, East Haven, Newington, Middletown, New Milford, North Haven, Norwich, Torrington, Wallingford, Waterbury, and Windsor. The chain recently announced it was planning to close at least 40 stores and possibly file for bankruptcy. The chain also has doubt it could continue to operate without these changes. A familiar eatery is reopening on Main Street! Tina's Cafe' 38 will be opening their doors on Tuesday July 23rd!
The eatery will open their doors at 75 Main Street in Torrington. Occupying a space in historic Torrington recently home to Margarita's Lounge. This represents a reopening for Cafe 38, which had previously operated down the street at 38 Main Street until late last year. The restaurant will have a variety of food on its menu including sandwiches, smoothies, coffees, frappes, hotdogs, salads, soups, wraps, chili, and more! The new ice cream and coffee shop opened yesterday (07/18). The eatery's coffee shop serves hot and iced coffee, teas, refreshers, lattes, cappuccinos, and macchiatos. Wflavors including caramel, hazelnut, mocha, vanilla, white chocolate, brown sugar, and salted carmel. For the peckish visitor, they serve bagels, muffins, waffles, yogurt parfaits, and more! Target is coming soon to Shoreline Plaza at 900 Boston Post Road! The store will occupy 78,050 square feet of space formerly occupied by Walmart and temporarily as Blaze Pickleball. The store is expected to open in August of 2025. The building will receive a total renovation inside and out including a completely new facade for the retailer. This is one of the many big names coming to Guilford next year including TJ Maxx and Old Navy at Guilford Commons. 2025 will be a big year for Guilford's retail scene. IHOP is coming soon to Enfield!
The International House of Pancakes will be opening a new 2,500 square foot restaurant in Stop & Shop Plaza at 54 Hazard Avenue! The restaurant will occupy the former Saki Sushi & Ramen House space next to Hartford Healthcare. The restaurant will have interior seating for about 74 customers and utilize the existing outdoor patio for an additional 28 seats. The IHOP will be smaller than most locations; their spaces are usually more than 4,000 square feet. This space will be roughly 2,500 square feet. IHOP corporate has confirmed the future location, but could not provide a timeline for opening. The chain has applied for a building permit with the town, but construction has not started yet. IHOP currently has locations in nearby Springfield & West Springfield. The chain has 11 locations in Connecticut including West Hartford, Manchester, Waterbury, Newington, Wallingford, Hamden, Danbury, Orange, Bloomfield, Southington, and Stamford. IHOP also plans to open new locations in New London and Stratford.
Congratulations to New Britain, Connecticut on being declared the Hot Dog Capitol of Connecticut! The announcement was made on Wednesday, National Hot Dog Day, by Erin Stewart and Senator Richard Blumenthal in front of the historic Capitol Lunch!

A new development is being proposed for 48 Long Hill Cross Road intersecting Bridgeport Avenue. The developers behind the project are Travis, Trevor, and Jim Botti of Crown Point Associates. Crown Point Associates was the original developer behind Fountain Square before a new developer took over. The development would be home to 5 new structures including -A new 42,781 square feet building is planned to be a 26,181 square foot grocery store with additional retail space -A new 7,926 square foot restaurant to be home to Texas Roadhouse. -A new 18,700 square foot retail plaza (no tenants identified). -A new 123 room Woodspring Suites hotel. -Two new drive thru restaurant buildings with one planned for Dairy Queen. The grocery store is shown to be a full-service grocery store, most likely a location of The Fresh Market or Sprouts. No grocery store brand has been identified yet. The project is still subject to all local approvals. Stay tuned for more information on this project. Bittersweet Bistro will be closing the doors of their bistro this Friday, July 19th. The bistro is located at 176 Clinton Road in Killingworth, CT.
The eatery featured fresh farm to table food and items from other local businesses. The menu had many options including sandwiches, coffee, tea, pastries, and much more. Options for their finals days are limited. The owners plans to focus on their successful tea business. Cafe Laurel is planning to open in the space after Bittersweet closes. We are now getting out first look at what the store will look like! The store will occupy about 11,500 square feet of space once occupied by Charming Charlie's and Mattress Firm. The store will be smaller than most Old Navy stores; stores usually range between 15,000 and 20,000 square feet. The new store is expected to open sometime in 2025. Old Navy will also be joined by TJ Maxx in the shopping plaza. TJ Maxx will occupy the former Bed Bath & Beyond space next to The Fresh Market. The plaza recently lost F45, a personal training studio chain. We now have the official closing list of the Stop & Shop locations that will be closing in Connecticut. These locations will close on or before November 2nd, 2024.

Chipotle Mexican Grill is coming soon to Naugatuck! The Mexican grill will be built at 112 Bridge Street, the former home of Eastern Company. Demolition work has started on the site including the removal of the existing office building.
The project was approved back in April of 2023 for the demolition of the existing building and the construction of a new 6,690 +/- square foot building on the site. Chipotle is planned to have a 'Chipot-lane', their mobile-order drive thru. The restaurant will also feature a large outdoor patio and charging station. Original plans for the building showed a Hartford Healthcare Urgent Care Center joinging Chipotle, it's unclear whether the still plan on opening at the site. The site was originally plans for Wendy's years ago, those plans were eventually cancelled. A real estate listing shows the new building has 2,500 square feet available for lease.
