The shipping company has submitted plans to the Inland Wetlands Agency in South Windsor for a new 30,000 square foot building behind their current space at 500 Sullivan Avenue. J Crew Factory plans to open a new location at The Shops at Evergreen Walk! The store would be a lower-priced version of the clothing store, opening in the old Coldwater Creek space. The space has been vacant since Coldwater Creek closed in 2014, except for a seasonal residency of Go Calendar. The store would occupy 5,960 square feet; completely renovating the space for the new retailer. J Crew previosuly had a store at the outdoor mall; the space was two doors down from their proposed location. Their old location is now home to Higher Ground Core. No timeline has been announced for the project, thought construction is expected to begin soon. The project is currently out for subcontractor bids. The chain currently has 4 outlet stores in Connecticut including West Hartford, Westbrook, Clinton, and Danbury; they have another location planned for Southbury. We are getting some updated images of the new library planned for the current Webster Bank space on Main Street!
The Town of Manchester - Government said in part: “Over the last several months, the 12-member Library Building Committee has been working diligently with Town Officials, Town Staff, Friar Architects & HBM Architects, and construction contractors to design Manchester’s 21st Century Public Library in the heart of Downtown Main Street. The 70,000 square foot, three-story structure includes ample space for Manchester’s robust collection of books and materials, lively and engaging areas for children of all ages, dedicated interactive teen space, maker space, and audio-visual studio, private study and meeting rooms, and a large community meeting space. The building designs aim for a future potential goal of net-zero energy with geothermal heating/cooling systems. These systems along with other sustainable materials are outlined in a proposed Energy Usage Model examined by Eversource and its consultants which considers opportunities to effectively offset costs to implementation. While these plans are still underway, the project team is optimistic about the sustainable factors this new building would bring to the Manchester community. It is expected that the demolition of the current structure and site preparation will commence in the 4th quarter of 2024. Weather permitting, new construction will commence by early 2025 with a 16–18-month timeline of completion.” For more information on the project, please visit: yvmmct.com What do you think of these updated images? The Catholic churches of Manchester are exploring further mergers into a single large church in town; and an expanded consolidated school program.
Saint Teresa of Calcutta was formed with the merging of Saint James, Saint Bridget, Assumption, and Saint Bartholomew Churches in Manchester. The churches pool resources under the Archdioses of Hartford. Recently revealed feasibility studies show the potential of merging all the churches into one large church. All four sites were explored as possible locations for the new church. Saint James Church on Main Street appears to be the favorite of the sites. The consolidated school program would be at Saint Bridget including a new wing of the school and further modernization of the building. Under the church's 'Parish 2030' proposal, a new 1,000 seat church could be constructed next door to the current Saint James Church at 896 Main Street. The existing church would be converted into a community center. A parking structure could be incorporated into the final plans. These plans are still in the conceptual state and are subject to change or cancellation. You can check out the entire feasibility study here: https://saintteresacatholic.org/parish2030 |
