A new Christmas attraction is coming to South Windsor!
Santa's Secret Forest is coming soon to 240 Governors Highway in South Windsor; home of Nightmare Acres, an annual haunted house. Santa's Secret Forest, a Christmas show that brings you through a magical forest in South Windsor CT to meet Mr & Mrs Claus and other friends. Immerse yourself in the enchanting atmosphere of the holiday season as you create lasting memories with your loved ones. The event will take place December 13th-15th and 20th-22nd, from 5:30pm-8:30pm. Tickets are as follows: Adults $20 Kids (10 and under) $10. The Tong Building’s demolition has officially started!
The building will be completely demolished before the Thanksgiving Day Manchester Road Race, with building material collapsed into the basement. The material will be removed from the basement after the Road Race. The building is located at 942 Main Street in Manchester and had been home to a number of businesses over the years including EbLens, Arthur Drug, Walgreens, Manchester Chinese Cuinse, Lion's Heart Gym, Bui, and many many more. Demolition is being completed by Bestech Inc, an environmental remediation company out of Ellington. Charhause Cookie, a gluten free bakery, is NOW OPEN in Bolton! The new gluten free micro-bakery has opened their doors at 299 Boston Turnpike in Bolton, the plaza with Subway.
The new bakery serves breakfast sandwiches, baked goods, pastries, coffees, lattes, macarons, and much more; all gluten free and other allergen-free! Their selection includes dairy free, egg free, and gluten free options; some are all free of all three! They are proudly serving coffee roasted by Silk City Coffee in Manchester. The dining room is beautiful and very charming! Plants, macaron-based decorations, fairy villages, and much more adorn the dining room. The shop’s hours for this week will be: Wednesday thru Friday 7am-2pm Saturday thru Sunday 8am-12pm Closed Monday and Tuesday this week They expect to expand their hours very soon! SRI Balalj Veg & Vegan Indian Restaurant will open at 231 Buckland Hills Drive in Manchester.
The new vegan / vegetarian Indian restaurant will occupy the 1,800 square foot space that was most recently occupied by Scottrade. The restaurant has been under construction for months to convert the space into a restaurant. Look for them to open soon! We had previously reported that the location was to be home to Spice Venue, an Indian restaurant. The restaurant will be owned by the same group, but will focus on vegetarian and vegan cuisine. The owners of Spice Venue previously operate India Kitchen in Manchester, now home to Hartford Healthcare Cancer Center on Tolland Turnpike. Club Studio will open their new gym in late January / early February according to corporate. The new gym is set to replace the former LA Fitness / Esporta Fitness at 100 Cedar Avenue in South Windsor.
The new gym will be owned by Fitness International, owner of LA Fitness, Esporta Fitness, City Sports Clubs, and other gyms. The new concept features boutique fitness studios within in addition to the open gym areas! Gym-goers can expect Hot Yoga, Boxing, Pilates, Strength Training, and Cryotherapy-Recovery. The entire gym has received a large renovation; the pool and hot tub will remain for guest to use when the gym opens! A new cafe/juice bar will also open for guests! Landscaping and site improvements are nearly complete for the parking lot! A temporary pre-sales office will soon open at 340 Buckland Road, the former Pasta Vita space in the Hannoush building. The British American Club has closed their doors in Manchester and put their clubhouse up for sale. The social club was located at 73 Maple Street in Manchester.
The 3,924 square foot building was constructed in 1939, has a complete bar, full kitchen setup, tables, chairs, restaurant equipment and more. There is also a full basement with more meeting space and a kitchen area. The asking price for the building is $375,000. The club hosted one final party on September 7th to say goodbye. Work has started on the new J.Crew Factory coming to The Shops at Evergreen Walk!
The new store, a factory-outlet version of J Crew stores, will open in the former Coldwater Creek space at the outdoor mall. The store will occupy just over 6,000 square feet. The space will be totally renovated including modifications to the exterior facade. The interior will be built to new J Crew standards. J Crew was previously located at Evergreen Walk, just 2 doors down from their new location. The space is now home to Higher Ground Core. The Shops at Evergreen Walk is in a flurry of construction, with work beginning on other new tenants including Lululemon (old Soft Surroundings), All Love Candles (old Waffle Cabin), and now J Crew Factory. Renovations are ongoing inside Apple and New Balance (both are open); while work was recently completed on renovations at Carter's and Sephora. Key Food is NOW OPEN in Manchester! The new grocery store is located at 425 Broad Street, between CSL Plasma and O'Reilly Auto Parts.
The new store features all the typical supermarket departments but in a smaller square footage. The store has seafood, meats, dairy, floral, deli, and more. Take a look at the pictures of the new supermarket, and stop by to check them out. They are open Monday-Saturday 7:30am-8pm and Sunday 7:30am-6pm. This is the soft opening, please be patient with the staff. They are still training and getting their feet wet. The store plans a ribbon cutting and grand opening in November. The location is planned to be built at 75 Buckland Road in Manchester, a vacant lot at the bottom of the hill near Texas Roadhouse. The applicant was listed as Raising Cane's Restaurants LLC. The restaurant is expected to be their typical format, similar to their locations in Simsbury and Enfield. This would be their fifth CT location if approved; with locations coming soon in Wethersfield and Milford. Raising Cane's specializes in chicken fingers. Their limited menu features chicken fingers, texas toast, fries, coleslaw, and chicken sandwiches. They are also known for their sweet tea and lemonade. The restaurant is still subject to all local approvals. This application is the first in many steps before construction can begin. A person close to the development stated the location would open in the third quarter of 2025. Stay tuned for more information! Playa Bowls is NOW OPEN in Manchester!
The fruit bowl restaurant is located at 1540 Pleasant Valley Road at The Plaza at Buckland Hills. The shop is located between Hot Table and Crumbl Cookie! The restaurant serves a wide variety of fruit bowls, fresh juices, smoothies, cold brew, oatmeal, and much more. Take a look at the attached menu for their offerings! This is just the latest addition coming to the Plaza. Pokemoto Poke Bowls will make their debut later this year. Burlington will open next summer, replacing Big Lots. The shop is open daily 8am-9pm! Lava Island, a chain of entertainment centers, plans to open their first Connecticut location in Manchester at 169 Hale Road, the former Bed Bath & Beyond / Most Excellent Gaming. The children's complex would feature 30,000 square feet of amusements including climbing structures, ballpits, trampolines, ninja warrior courses, party rooms, and much more. The space would also feature a restaurant inside. The project is planned to begin construction before the end of the year, with a spring 2025 opening. This would be the chain first location in the Northeast, with the closest location in Colorado. UHaul is proposing the construction of 2 new buildings, one new 3-story tall building (with nearly 110,000 square feet of spread across the 3 floors) , and a smaller 13,795 square foot building at the rear for U-Box units. The facility would be constructed at 77 Spencer Street, the 7 acre property between VAS Auto and UHaul's existing facility; the space was once home to 2 house and a barn. The project is still subject to all local approvals. the project has been submitted to Planning & Zoning; but no hearing date has been released for the project. UHaul has 2 existing storage facilities in Manchester, one at 440 Oakland Street and the other at 53-71 Spencer Street. All Love Candles is coming soon to The Shops at Evergreen Walk! The candle making bar and store will occupy the former Waffle Cabin space at the green!
All Love Candles is currently located at the Hilliard Mills in Manchester; the new location will act as a storefront and candle making bar; while the Hilliard Mills location will be used for production and larger parties! The shop will be open for candle making classes, retail shopping, walk-in candle making, collaborative events, and much more! The candle company hosts candle making nights, private parties, and other events! Lululemon, Little Bird Clay Company Stretch Lab are all coming soon to the outdoor mall. The center recently welcomed LaZBoy, Little Bird Clay Company, MySalonSuites, Golf Lounge 18, among others. We are getting our first look at the new Hobby Lobby coming to the former Christmas Tree Shop in Manchester! The home decor and craft shop will relocate from their location near Home Depot into the larger Christmas Tree Shop space at 120 Hale Road. The new store is expected to open this spring.
The store plans slight removation to the existing exterior, though the bulk will remain unchanged. New doors. automatic doors with overhead windows, and an updated entrance will be added. The iconic corner facade will be modified to remove the glass front with the sleigh, the greenhouse-style entrance will remain. The interior of the space will be gutted and built to Hobby Lobby's specs. Construction is expected to being next month, with trade permits filed for structural and HVAC modification recently. The discount retailer plans to occupy the former Big Lots store at The Plaza at Buckland Hills. The store would be located at 1470 Pleasant Valley Road according their corporate. Big Lots closed their store earlier this month after a brief liquidation sale. The store is expected to occupy the 30,000 square foot space. The store is expected to open in June 2025 according to the website. No building permits have been submitted or issued for the project yet. This would put the shopping center back to 100% occupancy! The Plaza at Buckland Hills will soon welcome Playa Bowl in the former The Fresh Monkee space, Pokemoto in the former Sports Clips space, and they recently welcomed Aroma Massage near Crumbl Cookies. Key Foods has set their tentative grand opening date for November 15th!

The store is expected to soft open later this month or early November; ahead of their grand opening. Lululemon, an athleisure store, will open their 7th Connecticut location at The Shops at Evergreen Walk! The new store will occupy the former Soft Surroundings space next to Munson's Chocolate, 5,643 square feet. The store will be a longterm pop-up location. The store is expected to open before the holiday season and last nearly a year. A pop-up Lululemon store is described as: 'A temporary store that usually appears for a limited time, often featuring a curated selection of products, potentially new lines, or special promotions, and may be located in a different area than a regular Lululemon store to test new markets or reach new customers.' Lululemon has 6 locations throughout Connecticut including West Hartford, Danbury, Greenwich, New Haven, Westport, and another pop-up store in Darien. Club Fitness was located at 1064 Main Street in East Hartford; featuring 2 floors of gym space and a shake bar. The gym was part of a chain of gym with locations in Bloomfield, Enfield, and Windsor. Those locations remain open. Club Fitness is just the latest business to close in Downtown East Hartford. Paddle Creek Beer Company closed their brewery at 1277 Main Street last week after a 4 year run. Red Room Cafe closed earlier this year at 1543 Main Street due to problems with the building. Bogner Meats - Manchester is NOW OPEN in their new location at 320 Middle Turnpike West!

The new senior housing community was approved for construction in 2019. The new 180 unit, 3 story, complex was originally dubbed Spencer's Landing; but was renamed to Connect 55+ to match the company's new nationwide branding. The facility features resort-like amenities. Each unit has their own in unit washer & dryer, modern kitchen with dishwasher, highspeed internet, and more. The project came to halt amid Covid-19 supply issues. Contractors sued the project's owner, Calamar Construction, alleging they were owed for work that was completed on the site. Construction picked up in recent years. The company now lists the property as now open. The complex will receive their new sign on Spencer Street shortly. The sneaker store is currently closed to undergo a remodel into the latest prototype store. The store will reopen soon with new signage, a new look, and new fixtures.
