The Center of Medical Arts recently moved their office to Newington Center! They offer lifestyle enhancing treatments and exercise regimens specific to the individual.
Owner Muna Swairjo opened the center back in 2002 at 617 Hartford Road in New Britain, down the road from Westfarms Mall. In addition to CMA, she owns The Garage Dance & Coffee Lounge on East Street in New Britain. Her passion for exercise and a healthy lifestyle was her motivation to start the business. A desire to share the knowledge gained throughout the years with others to help them is the goal. A move to a more accessible space to 1268 Main Street in Newington took place this past September. The location was chosen because most of their clients reside in town, and it was within a short distance of their original office. We got a look in to their new space. Across the hall from the main office is a Pilates studio with several Pilates stations. There are 3 Pilates teachers on staff who do classes at the studio. Swairjo puts a strong emphasis on Pilates as the primary form of exercise at CMA. It has many health benefits, such as helping with stress and relieving pain from chronic conditions and recovery from accidents. Muna was a gymnast who had been injured several times and took to the popular exercise routine created by Joseph Pilates, who suffered several injuries himself and developed the routine that offers a safer approach at pain relief without massive impact. Other services offered include massage therapy, physical therapy, acupuncture, yoga and spinal decompression therapy to name a few. There are 2 massage therapists on staff and Muna does physical therapy sessions along with her assistant, Curtis. During my visit, I was able to observe a session in progress with Curtis and his patient (see pictures). Swairjo hopes to add more services in the future including onboarding a naturopathic doctor and a chiropractor. She says that the alternative is the new traditional approach. Muna is very community-minded. She gives back whenever possible. Examples include donating to MS and Diabetes organizations. She also hopes to offer workshops in the future at a local church or event hall to educate others with a different topic each month. She strongly believes knowledge is just as important as the exercises and treatments themselves. The thing Muna is most proud of with CMA is that it is a small practice with a deep caring and concern for everyone. During the COVID pandemic, they were able to offer continuous services with a 0% infection rate among clients and staff members. One key factor of this achievement was the fact they have separate rooms for all sessions with strict sanitizing protocols. If you are looking to improve any aspect of your overall health and wellbeing, it is easy to get started with CMA. Office Administrator Jaime and Receptionist Nyrees are very welcoming upon entering the calming and inviting office. They offer free screenings by appointment to give interested people the chance to discuss their personal health issues and goals to see if treatment is appropriate. For more information, please visit The Center of Medical Arts on Facebook, visit their website at www.cmapt.com, or give them a call at 860-225-6666. CMA is located at 1268 Main Street in Newington. Park in the back lot. Enter through the back door. Office is the second door on right. Like what you see? Are you a business interested in sharing your story?
