Several recent openings, updates on previous news and developments and more in the latest Business Brief.
Yankee Mattress Company opened on November 4 with a ribbon cutting by Newington Chamber of Commerce. They are located at 3277 Berlin Turnpike. -The Lincoln Room - Newington, a banquet/event facility opened at 85 Kitts Lane (former VFW hall). They had a Public Hearing on November 8, and the facility was approved. They held their first event on November 11; an 80th birthday party! -Newington House of Cigars and More is now open at 1040 Main Street (next to Trek Bicycle). They replaced Smoker's Discount World. -Boston Market closed all Connecticut locations around November 9, including the Newington store at 2495 Berlin Turnpike. The rotisserie chain has been subject to legal troubles pertaining to unpaid wages. About a week ago, the State suspended their license to operate. All locations were served eviction notices. Other area locations included West Hartford and Bristol. We had reached out to corporate for answers on the Newington site and never heard back. Several news media outlets have since reported the above information. The property was sold to Venice Take 5 LLC in 2021. There is no word on a new tenant. -As previously reported, DORO Restaurant Group is planning a new restaurant at the old Bertucci's at 2929 Berlin Turnpike! All merchandise in the store is 10-80% off. I reached out to Bob's for comment on specifics of the remodel and have not yet heard back. -A reminder that The Paper Station is still open. Their last day is set for December 31 (per their recent social media posts). The shop has been holding a storewide clearance sale. All in-store inventory is now 50% off. Please visit them at 27 East Cedar Street (enter through the Constitution Square Municipal Lot). They are open weekends ONLY. Check their social media for specific hours. While the physical store is going away, the business will continue online! The owners plan on keeping the web store and will keep offering custom printing services. Visit their website at www.yourpaperstation.com -ICYMI, Garrett's Barber Shop opened in their new permanent space at 176 Newington Road in Elmwood on November 14. They were located at 139 Lowrey Place (Northwood Plaza) from 2016 until earlier this year. -At Westfarms, the new destination store, Jordan's Furniture, will be opening next Friday, December 15 at Noon. As reported by The Connecticut Scoop, the store will feature 120,000 sq. ft. of furniture floor space, an Outlet store, an 8-foot LED tunnel, and Jordan's Wall (New-England's largest LED screen). In the near future, Sally's Apizza will also join the amenities. Jordan's also has a location at 40 Sargent Drive in New Haven. -In the neighboring Corbin Collection, Buybuy BABY West Hartford reopened under new ownership on November 18. You can find them at 1433 New Britain Avenue. -As reported by The Scoop Wethersfield and The Connecticut Scoop on Friday, The Fresh Market will be opening a store at 1067 Silas Deane Highway in Wethersfield at the Wethersfield Shopping Center in 2024! The specialty grocery store also has locations in Avon, as well as Guilford and Westport. -At the next TPZ meeting this Wednesday (12/13/23), two Public Hearings of interest are scheduled. The first is for a new Dunkin' location at 79 East Cedar Street (former Santander Bank), and the other for a Hybrid Cannabis Retailer at 2661 Berlin Turnpike (former Pier 1).
