Toro Azteca has permanently closed their location at The Shoppes at Buckland Hills. Court actions had been filed by the mall for back rent and damages totaling over $200,000.
The courtcase filed on November 30th alleged the restaurant defaulted on their lease and owe back rent in the amount of $15,000. Toro Buckland LLC, owner of Toro Azteca allege that the mall failed to maintain habitability of the space, including repeated sewage backups. Allegations the mall has denied according to their reply in court. The remainder of the damages sought include future rent for 9 months, the estimated time to find a new tenant for the space, and legal fees. Toro Azteca's lease was to expire in June 2029 according to the court documents. No judgement has been published online at the time of this post. A 'Notice to Quit' was served on the restaurant on December 4th by a CT State Marshal.
