Buckland Business Brief 5/12/18

It's that time of the month again! Time for the Buckland Business Brief. It has been a crazy month of closings and openings. Two stores and one restaurant closed at the mall, but three stores and a juice bar are coming soon. A new restaurant and a new store opened at Evergreen; and another restaurant and store are coming soon. Lots of remodels are coming to the retail market soon too! This month I also included some Vernon business news! Take a look at the new logo; let me know if you like it in the comment section! Let's dive in to this month's news.

Closing:
-Bertucci's at The Shoppes at Buckland Hills closed suddenly on 4/16/18. The chain files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy and shuttered their Manchester location, along with other Connecticut locations in Orange and Southington.
-Urban Threadz has closed their Manchester store. The store was located in the former 'Francesca's' location at the mall.
-Sweet U Candies and Nuts has closed their mall kiosk. The candy store was located in front of Dick's in the atrium space.
-Misaki Japanese Buffet has closed in Manchester. The restaurant was located in the Big Y Plaza.


Opening:
-K&G will reopen their local location this summer! See Vernon News below!
-Flatbread Company has opened their South Windsor location! The restaurant opened in the former 'Nix's' location at The Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk.
-Fix and More has opened at The Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk. They opened in the former 'The Limited' location.
-Mint Rags will open in the mall, its unknown where this store will open.
-Juicy J Juice Bar has announced that they will open their mall location this month!
-Vionic Shoes will open a store at Evergreen Walk! The store is locally owned by New Balance owner Michael Disibio. Vionic will open in the former Ten Thousand Villages location.
-Red Heat Tavern has announced the opening date for their South Windsor location as June 18th!
-Kumar's South Indian Village Cuisine will open in the former 'Misaki' location.
-Curly Star will open in the mall, I would assume that it's a hair salon that might replace, recently closed, C&C Unisex Health and Beauty.


Buckland News:
-Construction is really heating up for At Home! The space has been completely gutted, all the older facades have been demolished, and the sign at the street has been installed!
-Construction on Trader Joe's has also began to increase. The front facade has been boarded up as the storefront is updated!
-Construction on Cost Plus World Market is also moving along, the front facade has been painted, brick installed, and the former Kaoud Rug's storefront has been demolished and sealed.
-Bed Bath and Beyond will remodel their Manchester store; permit for the renovation have been filed which says that departments will be shifted.
-LL Bean is in the process of remodeling their South Windsor store! Check it out!
-Construction on the interior of Topp DDog Daycare has officially started in the former Final Markdown location on Tolland Turnpike.
-Olive Garden recently completed a full remodel of their Manchester location; complete with new logo, new facade, and new decor!
-While snooping around on franchising websites, I saw that Cinnabon is looking for a franchisee for a location at 'The Shoppes at Buckland Hills,' Cinnabon recently announced that they will open a location at Westfarms.


Other Manchester News:
-CVS on North Main Street will be renovated. Replacing the checkout counters along with ADA improvements.
-Higher Ground Core has opened their Manchester location. The fitness/dance studio is located at 465 Buckland Hills Drive.
-Upstyle Hair and Makeup will open a new studio on Main Street! The studio will open next door to Silk City Antique.
-The Lucky Taco has added some outdoor dining to its Main Street restaurant! Check it out!


NEW! Vernon News:
-Construction for Wendy's will soon begin in Vernon! The building next door to Taco Bell is being prepped for demolition. A self storage facility and retail building will be build along with the Wendy's.
-It appear that K&G will reopen their local store in Vernon. I have reached out to both K&G and DLC Management for confirmation; neither have responded.
-Swiss Cleaners has renovated their Vernon Circle location. It remained open during the remodel.
-Big Shots Billiards has rebranded, its now known as Racks Billiards. Racks is located next door to O'Reilly Auto Parts.
