It's the end of an era in Downtown Hartford, with a longtime store moving out of their storefront!
Morneault's Stackpole Moore Tryon will be leaving their longtime home at 242 Trumbull Street in Downtown Hartford, but hopes to relocate elsewhere in the city. The upscale clothing store has been located in this space for nearly four decades, and in Hartford since 1909. Morneault's lease is expiring and they couldn't come to a new agreement with their landlord. The store is hoping to reopen in a new space in Spring 2026, just a short walk away at a property they own on Ann Uccello Street and Asylum Street. The move is contigent on securing building permits and a grant up to $100,000. The store might look elsewhere outside Hartford if permits and grants don't come to fruition. The new store would only feature men's clothing including personal shopping and tailoring; a founding principal of Stackpole Moore Tryon. The store currently offers both Men's and Women's apparel at their Trumbull Street location. A retirement sale will begin on November 1st with the store expected to close on New Year's Eve ahead of the planned move. Furniture, mannequins, fixtures, and artwork will be included in the sale. Historical items will be donated. Looking ahead, there has been a lot of interest in their space. The landlord hopes to attract a new tenant including a restaurant, bar, or both with an activity or attraction to bring more people to Downtown Hartford.
