Rosemary's Bakery will be permanently closing their bakery at 729 Thomaston Road in Watertown! The bakery previously announced plans to close before reversing course in a statement to The Connecticut Scoop. The owner announced they will now be permanently closing this weekend, 06/27-06/28.
Despite efforts by Rosemary's and the landlord to find a new coffee shop partner, the owners of the bakery has decided to focus on family and enjoy their golden years. The owners said in a statement: "Our landlords, John and Sherry Daddona, hoped we would stay and went above and beyond to help us search for a new coffee shop partner. We came close a few times, and throughout it all, John and Sherry have been incredibly supportive. They saw firsthand the connection the community had with Rosemary’s. It’s been an emotional ride these past few months, but ultimately, Linda and I have decided it’s time to focus on family and truly enjoy our golden years. With all that said, this coming weekend will be our final one in operation. We’ll be baking extra cakes and will continue taking cake orders while we can. Pastries will be limited, and on Saturday, we’ll offer 2-for-1 on all pastries in the retail area as a thank-you treat." The owners say there is a small glimmer of hope for Rosemary's future. A baker from South Norwalk has expressed interest in taking over the bakery and café space. Whether they choose to continue under the Rosemary’s name or start something new is still to be determined—discussions are in the early stages. The bakery opened their doors in October 2024 at 720 Thomaston Road in Watertown, next door to CaraBean. The bakery is the re-birth of the original Rosemary Bakery that closed back in 1997. The bakery originally opened in 1946 by John Bacco; being purchased by Rick Collier in 1983. Mr.Collier closed the bakery in 1997 and began teaching Culinary Arts. Rick Collier reopened the bakery in October 2024 to stay busy in retirement.
