The Republican-American building in Waterbury has been put on the market, just a month after the newspaper was sold to Hearst Media.
The longtime headquarters for the Republican-American was put on the market for $4.95 million by Parker Benjamin Real Estate Services as a redevelopment opportunity. The 70,000 square foot building is host to a 245 foot tall clock tower modeled after Torre Del Mangua in Siena, Italy. The building was once home to the City's train station. Hearst Media does not own the building. It is still owned by American-Republican Inc; the former owner of the newspaper with the principal of the entity being William Pape. The newspaper does continue to be a tenant in the building. American-Republican Inc and Parker Benjamin proposed a transformation of the property into a mix of 38 apartments, office, and retail space back in December 2024.
