Dave’s Cobbler Shop Shoe Repair has opened in their new location at 46 Union Street!
The shoe repair shop has relocated from their longtime home at 19 West Main Street to 46 Union Street, the small brick building next to the Rockville Public Library. The space has sat vacant for years, once occupied by clothing store, the library during the renovation, Gallery 46, and many other shops. Dave’s has operated in Rockville since 1983, he moved to the West Main Street location in 1997. The shop offers shoe repair, heel replacement, zipper fixing, and more. Vernon's only hybrid recreational-medical dispensary is located at 234 Talcottville Road, currently called The Botanist. The dispensary will soon receive a new name called Budr. Budr is a chain of dispensaries with CT location in West Hartford, Danbury, Stratford, and Tolland. No word yet on when the transition will happen to Budr. The Botanist opened their doors in Vernon in Janaury 2024, replacing a kid's entertainment complex. Opening:

After years of site work and foundation construction, the site is a flurry of activity. The project has been under construction for a while; with a lot of site work complete in the past few years. The site is planned to house APH Hair Stylist; when the project was first proposed in 2020, the site was to be salon suites. I’ve attached a rendering of the building when it was first proposed. -Paradise Pizza & Family Restaurant is coming soon to 575 Talcottville Road! The new pizza place will replace the former Xpress Pizza. Xpress Pizza closed quietly earlier this year. A site plan of development was recently submitted to the Town on Tuesday for the proposed conversion, exterior changes include new lighting, fencing, and landscaping. The plant shop opened in November at 91 Main Street in Stafford Springs. The couple both work full-time jobs in addition to the store. The shop sold a large variety of common and rare house plants; most from the couple’s personal collection. Juliano's Pools is planning a major expansion of their Vernon headquarters! The pool and spa installer has submitted plans to expand their existing building at 321 Talcottville Road in Vernon! The expansion would feature a new 3-story building. The pool installer has outgrown their current office space and needs more space for employees. The plans are still subject to local approvals. The expansion would be located on the right side of the current building, on the site of the pool house near the model pool. This is the second major project planned by Juliano's. Last year the company submitted plans for a new retail development on the parcel next door. That project would feature 3 new tenants with a drive thru; they are still looking for tenants for the building. The building is being assembled and will open their doors on April 14th! 7 Brew Coffee is a viral drive-thru coffee shop that has become increasingly popular from videos on Tiktok. I have confirmed that they will cater to walk-up customers as well! The shop serves a number of beverages including 'The 7 Originals', coffee flavors like blondie, brunette, smooth 7, white chocolate mocha, cinnamon roll, german chocolate, and sweet & salty. The shop also features 7 Energy (an iced energy drink with numerous flavors), smoothies, milkshakes, teas, lemonades, 7 Fizz (sparkling water with any flavor), cold brew, and classic espresso and coffee drinks. The new shop features the chain’s signature prefabricated 510 square foot building; supplemented by a 230 square foot cooler and storage building attached by a canopy. 7 Brew has one existing Connecticut location in Wallingford that opened last year. The BBQ restaurant will open at 346 Kelly Road in Vernon. The building was formerly home to Angellino's, Frankie B's, and 346 Gastropub. Antico Enterprises, owner of the property, applied for sign permits for Little Mark's BBQ & Grill at 346 Kelly Road. A new business named 'Little Mark's Big BBQ LLC' was filed by Panayiota Giotsas, wife of Pit-Master George Giotsas, for the address as well. George Giotsas was the owner of the original Little Mark's; he was also the Winner of Food Netwok's Cooks vs Cons, contestant on Supermarket Stakeout and Firemasters. Little Mark's previously operated at 226 Talcottville Road until 2018. Square Peg Pizza now operates in the building. 346 Gastropub closed their doors at the end of 2024 after less than a year of business. I am excited for butt-kickin' barbecue to come back to Vernon! The restaurant removed alcohol and pork products from the menu, opting for turkey based ham and pepperoni. The menu is now Halal. Demolition will soon begin on the former Denny’s at Tri City Plaza in Vernon! The current restaurant building will be demolished and in its place a new 7 Brew coffee shop will be built.

The Mexican restaurant will be located at 12 Main Street in Ellington, the former Holiday Pizza space behind Kloter Farms (Holiday moved next to Casey's Cafe.) The restaurant has completely renovated the space to be a new modern taqueria! The restaurant started after the owner's got married in 2020; the humble beginning as a street food vendor utilizing a hotdog cart. The Gastropub was located at 346 Kelly Road in Vernon; replacing the short-lived Frankie B’s Tavern. 346 Gastropub opened in September of 2024 under the management of Chef Frank Lepri. The restaurant posted ‘We are closed’ on their Google profile, updated their status to permanently closed, and their website is now offline. We will keep you updated if the restaurant reopens or pivots to a new concept and name. A new Halal market is planned for Vernon!

The building, along with a small house in the rear, will be demolished to make way for a new commercial plaza! The property will be combined with the former Pancho Loco property and a new 20,000 +\- square foot place built in its place. Lazy Liquors is expected to reopen in the new plaza once construction is complete. The new plaza will be owned by Jagdev Toor. Toor owns Toor Wine & Liquor in Windsor, along with the Botanist building, the former Samuel LTD Tux building and others. Tri City Plaza is seeking approval to demolish the former Denny's building in the plaza! The building will be demolished along with the foundation, parking, and sidewalks to make way for a new drive-thru restaurant.

The restaurant is located at 295 Hartford Turnpike, the former Wang’s Buffet space in Ocean State Job Lot Plaza. The restaurant opened earlier this month, moving from their longtime home in East Hartford. I order the Pechuga a la Plancha; a grilled chicken breast, salad, rice, and fries. It was delicious! My friend got the Bistec a lo Pobre; steak, salad, sweet plantains, rice, and fries. All things said, it was an enjoyable experience, good food, and friendly staff. I do hope they add some more authentic Peruvian decor down the road (they’re still adding to the space); but definitely worth a visit! Make sure you try them out! |
