The National sandwich shop chain has installed their coming soon signs at the new location. Jersey Mike’s will be located at 135 West Road, next door to Starbucks! Construction will begin soon with an opening in 2026. Jersey Mike’s joins Starbucks and Hartford Healthcare Go Health Urgent Care in the building. When the new multi-tenant building was under construction, we stated this space was being eyed by Jersey Mike’s. Now it’s finally coming! Stay tuned for more information on their opening.

The Shops at 30 will be home to 2 new businesses in the coming months, while another recently opened! Our Friends Closet & Vintage Marketplace will be moving their boutique into The Shops at 30! The shop will be located next to Integrated Rehab Services (formerly Integrated Sports & Fitness). Our Friends Closet is currently located at 193 Talcottville Road; they are currently hosting a moving sale with everything 25%-75% off. Studio 467 has relocated their art studio from Downtown Rockville to The Shops at 30! A new restaurant is coming soon to Downtown Rockville!
Zach's Chicken & Grill is coming soon to 13 West Main Street in Rockville, the former Craig's Kitchen space across from Town Hall! The restaurant recently filed for building permits for the space with plans to install a new hood system, grease interceptor, and other improvements. The applicant for the project is Zamira Amini. The restaurant would feature dine-in, takeout, and delivery; with a more fast-food style atmosphere. No opening timeline was immediately available. 
A new store is coming soon to Rockville!
JohnSandras Re-Originals is coming soon to 19 West Main Street in Downtown Rockville, the former Dave’s Cobbler Shop before they moved up the road. The new store is expected to open next week, selling Fenton Art glass, vintage items, antiques, and other ‘re-original’ goods! Stop by and check them out once they open. The former Talcott Brothers School at 97 Main Street in Vernon is being targeted for a multi-unit residential conversion. The property is currently under contract to be sold to the developer. Under plans submitted to the town, the former school house would be converted into 11 apartments, a mixed of one and two bedrooms units. Plans are still subject to approval by the town. If approved, the site would receive a new renovation including new interiors, new windows, landscaping, sidewalks, parking improvements, and more. The exterior of the building would be preserved. The building dates back to 1880 when it was the Talcott Brothers School, named for the large manufacturer in that section of town. The building continued to be used for educational function until the late 2010s. The property was sold to Ticketnetwork by the town; the company planned and started a restoration/renovation of the building to serve as training center. These plans fell through during the 2020 lockdowns after work had already began. New menu items have been added to Frankie G’s Ice Cream! The ice cream shop has added a few new items! Ice Cream Nachos are the most exciting addition! The nachos come with your choice of ice cream (vanilla, chocolate, or twist) with 3 toppings. Served with waffle-cone chips. Nachos come in two sizes, single or double serving. New toppings and dips have been added for your ice cream cone or cup. Toppings include Oreo crumbles, Heath bar pieces, hot fudge, M&M, Mint Oreo crumbles, and caramel sauce. New hard-shell dips include chocolate & cherry. Radial Coffee Co is NOW OPEN at 12 Goose Lane in Tolland, part of Gooseberry Corners. This is Radial's second Connecticut location and third overall; their original location is in Vernon and they opened an outpost in Portland Maine earlier this year. The shop sells ethically sourced coffee beans; supporting fair trade practices and sustainable initiatives. Beans are roasted in house at their Vernon location and flavor syrups are house crafted. They serve baked goods among other items. The new Tolland location is much larger than their Vernon shop; the shop has 3,000 square feet of space while Vernon only has 1,200. This gives the space more seating. Make sure you chekc out the amazing artwork on the wall by local artist Alexis Roja and the exposed heavy timber beams. The coffee shop also features a beautiful wrap around porch with adirondack chairs and rockers. Paul's Boutique Records will be closing its doors and going virtual!
The record store is located at 630 Talcottville Road in Vernon. The store opened in 2021 replacing New England Juke Box, another record and vintage media store. They are currently running a sale in anticipation of their physical store closing. All vinyl is 50% off and no reasonable offer refused on equipment. Plans are to downsiz into a smaller facility. Deals on Wheels has closed their Vernon bin store in the former Ladd & Hall store in Courthouse Plaza at 20 East Main Street in Rockville.
The store opened their doors on June 7th of 2024, bringing deals to the space. The store sold Amazon, Walmart, and othe big-box store returns for a daily flat price. The store has another location in Waterbury; and will open a new location in New Haven on Friday, 08/15. Pedal Power has closed their Vernon location after 15 years; but a familar face will be opening a new bicycle store in its space!

Just Like New will permanently close their Vernon consignment store! The store’s last day will be August 30th, 2025. Find them at 435 Hartford Turnpike in Vernon, at The Shops at 30. The store has been open for 34 years, ending a long run in Vernon. Just Like New had a second location in Glastonbury until a few years ago. All current consigners; if you’d like your items returned please make sure to pick them up before the closing date.  A new diner has opened their doors in Tolland! Maria’s Diner is now open at 200 Merrow Road in Tolland, in Meeting House Commons! The new restaurant features breakfast and lunch options. The All-Day Breakfast Menu includes breakfast specials, pancakes, biscuits & gravy, breakfast burritos, eggs benedict, french toast, waffles, breakfast sandwiches, and much more! A new ice cream shop is NOW OPEN in Vernon! Frankie G's Ice Cream has opened at 448 Hartford Turnpike in Vernon. The shop is a walk-up window at the existing Shell Gas Station across from the Vernon Diner. The shop utilizes the former Dunkin Donuts drive thru window for their ice cream business. The former drive thru lane and grass is now a patio area for guests to enjoy! Dunkin relocated to a new building next door in the 2010s. The shop serves soft-serve ice cream, with plans to add other frozen creations. Join them 08/01 at 5pm for a ribbon cutting with Mayor Dan Champagne! They are open daily from 12-9pm CASH ONLY until they get their POS. Connecticut's newest mini-golf course opens today in Vernon! Fossil Falls Miniature Golf at Connecticut Golf Land will open their doors at 4pm today! They are located at 95 Hartford Turnpike in Vernon! The mini-golf course will be dinosaur themed with impressive set piece, large dinos, and water features. The opening marks the return of mini-golf to the site. The land was previously home to CT Golf Land, a large scale amusement center once home to bumper boats, batting cages, go-karts, an arcade, and much more. Many of those amusement will be returning under owner Jerry Fornarelli's plans. He began construction on the project in 2022; promising to bring fun back to the site. Fornarelli opened ConeHeads Creamery in 2023; and added Rocking Horse Bar & Grill in August of 2023. The new mini golf will be open daily from 12pm to 10pm! 
A local coffee shop is growing!
Vernon Coffee Roasters is expanding. The locally owned coffee shop will be expanding their business into the vacant space next door, a former doctor's office. Find them at 520 Hartford Turnpike in Vernon. The new expansion will include more seating and new bathrooms. The new dining room will have seating for 75 seats. The existing space will be reconfigured to expand their kitchen and relocate their queue. The coffee shop is already wonderful, serving drip coffee, cappuccinos, mochas, lattes, Turkish coffee, iced tea, cold brew, and more. Vernon's Annual "Summer Days" Carnival starts tonight!
The annual carnival will take place from tonight until July 26th at 70 Loveland Hill Road in Vernon, at Rockville High School! Don't miss out on food, fun, and rides galore! Free admission to the carnival and unlimited ride bracelets are still available on site. Wristbands are $35, good only on the night of purchase. Tickets are also available individual and sheets of 25. Paradise Pizza Family Restaurant is now open at 575 Talcottville Road in Vernon, the former Xpress PIzza space. The new restaurant is owned by the same owners as Somers Pizza in Somers. The new restaurant features dine in service, take-out, and delivery. The menu inluces pizza, calzones, salads, burgers, sandwiches, grinders, Italian classics, seafood, and much more! Vernon is currently bidding remediation work at the former Daniel's Mill in Downtown Rockville!
An RFP was issued in July for the remediation of hazardous materials inside the mill at 98 East Main Street in Rockville. HAZMAT materials include (but aren't limited too) PCBs, Asbestos, and other VOCs. A walkthrough was held this morning at the site for bidders to tour and look through the space. 29 different contractors were on-site according to the sign-in sheet. Abatement is just the first step in the eventual redevelopment of the site. The town purchased/took control of the building in 2021. The town has received over $4 million in grant towards the remediation of the site. The mill is expected to be redeveloped along with the Amerbelle and Anacoil Mills (the Rockville Mill Complex) as a gateway to Downtown Vernon. The site would be a mixed-use project consisting of 200 residential units (110,000 sq. ft.) and 20,000 sq. ft. of commercial, brewpub/restaurant and event space according to reporting from 2022. Napa Auto Parts has moved to their new Vernon location!
The auto parts store has relocated to 67 Windsor Avenue in Vernon, just a few doors down from their previous home of 59 Windsor Avenue. The space has been expanded and renovated for Napa, it was previously home to a Midas Auto Repair Shop. Check out the new store! Shah's Halal Food will open their new Vernon location on June 30th!

I got a tour of the new restaurant by the local franchisee, and it is amazing! Big, bright, and welcoming! The restaurant has locations in Middletown, Bristol, Newington, Winsted, Stamford, Stratford, Bridgeport, Hamden, East Hartford, and Danbury. The chain will open a new locations planned for Storrs and Waterbury as well. Shah's is just the latest chain to plan a location in the plaza. Jersey Mike's recently opened in the old Weight Watchers space and 7Brew Coffee recently celebrated their opening at the former Denny’s site.
