Sometimes the small scoops are just as filling. That's why I will be providing abbreviated versions of our past Business Briefs when necessary to keep followers informed instead of compiling a large update that takes longer to digest. I will see what works best and plan future posts accordingly. Business news has been light during the past few months, but we are still here. Much of this post is a recap of previous posts, with a few new items worth mentioning. Here are the small scoops: -GF Fitness Newington provided us an update on their new location coming soon to 3563 Berlin Turnpike in the former LA Fitness. They are still scheduled to open later this year. They hope to open by March, and we hope to find out the opening date soon. -Wonder (3313 Berlin Turnpike) plans to open their Newington location in April. They will join Meadow Commons and also expand their presence in Connecticut with four additional locations in Westport (opening in March), Canton (opening in June), as well as Darien and West Hartford. Read the post from The Connecticut Scoop here: https://www.theconnecticutscoop.com/.../multi-town-scoop... -GameStop (2997 Berlin Turnpike) closed last month as part of a wave of closures as the company continues to decrease their store footprint and focus on online sales. -Cozy Home/Bargain House Furniture and Mattresses (2985 Berlin Turnpike) is currently holding a showroom liquidation of their temporary store that opened in March, 2023 and served as a filler tenant for the former Dick's Sporting Goods. No closing date is known at this time. -The future Market 32 supermarket at 3333 Berlin Turnpike will begin build-out of the new space. They anticipate a late-summer 2026 opening, which is when the current Price Chopper at 2985 Berlin Turnpike will close. The two stores are owned by the same company and will feature all of the same departments and services in a smaller, modern footprint. This move will leave Turnpike Plaza with two large vacancies. -Kingdom Buffet (196 Kitts Lane) has opened in Newington Commons (next to Stop and Shop). Read the post from The Connecticut Scoop here: https://www.theconnecticutscoop.com/.../kingdom-buffet... -The Newington Kiwanis Flea Market will continue this season after it was uncertain as to the future of the popular annual event. New members to the Kiwanis Club have stepped up to continue the flea market so that this tradition can continue and provide space for the many vendors that set up their offerings every Sunday during the spring and fall at Constitution Square in downtown. I will provide an update when the spring session gets closer. Stay tuned for more scoops, and if you have business news to share with us, send us an email at [email protected] or private message us.
