A local coffee shop is expanding with a new location in Downtown Clinton!
Julie’s Cup of Joe will be opening its second location in Downton Clinton! The coffee shop will be located at 6 Post Office Square, next door to the new Lily’s boutique. The new location in planned to open in late May or early June. The space will feature seating for 20 patrons inside and have 2 tables outside. The coffee shop originally opened in Westbrook in 2018. The new location will be their second storefront. Julie’s Cup of Joe serves hot and iced drip coffees & cold brew along with espresso-based drinks like lattes. They also serve bagels, pastries, and other small bites. Look for them to open in late May or early June!

A new Italian marketplace is coming to Middletown!
Red Fox Market Place is opening soon at 218 Smith Street in Middletown, next door to Red Fox Restaurant & Bar Get ready for local vibes & global tastes. The new restaurant will serve artisan coffee, fresh smoothies, and authentic European & Italian pastries. The new restaurant will be owned by Fico and Zumra Cecunjanin, joining their other restaurants including Red Fox in Middletown and Red Fox Amore in Middlefield. Stay tuned for more information on their opening! Dock & Dine, a local landmark, is planning a comeback to Old Saybrook after voters approved a land-swap in a town referendum on March 31st!
Old Saybrook residents overwhelmingly voted to approve a land-swap for the project. The town will acquire the 2.2 acre lot of the former restaurant in exchange for a $1 per year ~ 25-year lease with (3) 25-year renewals options on the land under the Duffy Pavilion at 155 College Street in Old Saybrook. Both the town and restaurateur Jon Kodama have 120 days for due diligence before committing to the deal. The plans would convert the Duffy Pavilion into a new fast-casual version of the Dock & Dine restaurant. The former Dock & Dine land at 145 College Street would be converted into a public park, extending the Saybrook Point green space. There were 2,719 votes cast in the referendum with 1,993 voting yes to the deal and 726 voting no. The Dock & Dine property has sat vacant for nearly 14 years, the longtime restaurant was heavily damaged by both Tropical Storm Irene and again by Hurricane Sandy the next year. The building was subsequently demolished. A new Greek Street Food eatery is coming to East Haddam!
Thena Pita Bar is coming soon to 25 Falls Road in the Moodus section of East Haddam. The eatery will be located in the former Pizzeria da Vinci space near HomeTown Market at The Old Lumberyard. The new restaurant will be owned by Niko Papathanasiou and Sarah Turker; the couple has owned the Greekin' Out food truck since 2015. Niko is 100% Greek, with roots in the Epirus region. Thena Pita Bar will serve authentic Greek street food including gyros, souvlaki, baklava, and much more! Get ready for a small taste of Greece right in Moodus. Hot Rock Pizza is coming soon to 149 Main Street in the Rockfall section of Middlefield, replacing the former Pizzeria Da Vinci space. The new takeout & dine in spot will be your new neighborhood staple in Rockfall, serving up handcrafted pizzas alongside a full menu of hot sandwiches, fresh salads, crispy wings, and classic pizzeria favorites. Pizza will be hearth-cooked, with pies cooked on black granite slabs for even heating; hence 'Hot Rock'. With a cozy laid-back, local feel and a focus on quality ingredients and friendly service, it’s the kind of spot where regulars are known by name and everyone’s welcome. The restaurant will be mostly take-out restaurant; with a small amount of indoorseating and some new exterior seating for the warmer months. The new pizza shop will be owned by John Manolakis, the found of Giovanni's Brick Oven Pizza in Wethersfield & Glastonbury and Gio's Brick Oven Pizza in East Granby. Look for them to open this spring! A local hardware store is moving into the former TJ Maxx in Clinton!
Steward's Ace Hardware will be moving into the former TJ Maxx store in Clinton according to plans filed with the Town. The store is expected to open this fall at 215 East Main Street. The hardware store will be relocating from their current location at 114 East Main Street in Clinton, part of the Liberty Square plaza. The new store will occupy 25,000 square feet, a larger space from their current store. The TJ Maxx space has been empty since the chain moved their Clinton location to Guilford in August of 2025. No word yet on what might replace Steward's at their current location. Look for them to move into the new space this fall! The developer of Max's Place has submitted plans for a small multi-tenant building to be home to multiple restaurants.
Plans have been submitted to the Architectural Review Board for a new building at Max's Place at 22 Spencer Plains Road in Old Saybrook. The site is currently home to a parking lot and a vacant home. The new building, if approved, would be 7,549 square feet to be divided between 5 tenants including Chipotle, Jersey Mike's, a yet-to-be-announced coffee shop, and 2 additional future tenants. The new building would be located next to the existing multi-tenant strip center home to Five Guys, Choice Pet, Supercuts, and T-Mobile. The expansion plans for Max's Place has been evolving over the past year. Once envisioned as a larger development along Boston Post Road, plans have now shifted closer to the existing buildings. Wadman's Home + Table is coming soon to Middletown. The new store will be located at 195 Main Street in Middletown, the former home of cinder + salt. Wadman's Home + Table is bringing meaning back into your home and around your table. Inside you'll find everything you need for your home and hosting needs including tablewear / dishes, kitchen gadgets, cards, recipe books, cooking utensils, and much more! Work is underway on renovations to bring the owner's vision to life including painting, fixtures, and much more. The store plans to open on April 4th according to a graphic on the store's window. Pedals is now open at 386 Main Street in Middletown; located next to their sister cafe, Perk on Main, inside The Clock Tower (formerly Main Street Market.) Everything Pedals offers is made with zero added sugar. The cold-press our juices in-house at their Durham location, make their own nut butters at the State Street shop, and all smoothie bowl bases are house-made using only blended fruit. They are mainly plant-based and offer plenty of gluten-free options. Their goal is to have something on the menu that’s good for, and appeals to, anyone looking for a healthy treat.
