A first of its kind in the United States Haribo store is coming soon to Wretham Village Premium Outlets! The new Haribo store will be located in Suite 637, near the Van's Outlet store at 1 Premium Outlet Boulevard in Wretham. Haribo will replace the former Juicy Couture Outlet Store. The new Haribo candy store will be the first in the United States, the candy company operates similar stores in the United Kingdom. Wretham Village Premium Outlets decribes the new store as: "Step into the happy world of HARIBO and discover a colorful destination for gummi candy lovers of all ages. Explore our exclusive Pick ’n Mix station featuring dozens of HARIBO favorites – including iconic Goldbears, Twin Snakes, Peaches, Goldbears Wild Berry and more – and create your own custom candy mix. Ugly Dumpling is coming soon to Seekonk!
The restaurant chain will occupy the former TGI Fridays at 1105 Fall River Avenue in Seekonk. The restaurant will occupy 6,800 square feet of space. The chain has 12 existing locations in with 14 new locations planned including in the new Seekonk location. The restaurant serves traditional Chinese cuisine including orange chicken, shrimp stir fry, chicken fried rice. The restaurant is famous for their Xiao Long Bao (a traditional steamed bun with a number of fillings) and a variety of dumplings. Ross Dress for Less is eyeing the former Big Lots in West Springfield for a new location with a Fall 2026 tentative opening!
The discount retailer is currently bidding a project to renovate the former Big Lots store at 1150 Union Street in West Springfield for a new location. The Big Lots store closed alongside the rest of the chain in 2025. The new Ross Dress for Less store would occupy roughly 30,000 square feet of space. They plan a Fall 2026 opening. The deal is still subject to lease finalization and construction permitting. Ross Dress for Less is a quickly growing discount retailer, similar to TJ Maxx and Marshalls. They currently have no locations in Massachusetts though they recently signed a lease for another location in Chicopee. Ross has been steadily working their way up the East Coast, opening new stores in Connecticut and New York over the past year. Ross Dress for Less offers the best bargains on the latest trends in clothing, shoes, home decor and more! Stay tuned for more information on their opening! A new ice cream shop has opened and a new healthy eatery is coming soon to the Noble Gas Station in Sturbridge! The travel center is located at 195 Charlton Road in Sturbridge, MA.
Three new tenants have signed onto the Springfield Crossing development at 1655 Boston Post Road in Springfield, the site of the former Eastfield Mall.
Playa Bowls, a fast growing chain of smoothie shops and acai bowls, has signed on to join the plaza of small in-line tenants. Playa Bowls offers a variety of fresh fruit smoothies, juices, bowls, as well as coffee and much more. Beyond Oishii Sushi is coming soon to a 1,625 square foot space in the plaza. The new eatery is expected to serve Japanese cuisine including sushi, sashimi, and other traditional favorites. Be Young Wellness Spa is coming soon to a 3,250 square foot space in the plaza. The new day spa is expected to bring luxury wellness services and spa treatments to the shopping plaza. Four additional tenants have leases pending at the plaza, though their names have not been released. Springfield Crossing recently welcomed Hobby Lobby, BJ's Wholesale, La-Z-Boy, Skechers, PetSmart, Chick Fil A, and Chipotle. Other new tenants coming soon include Carter's and Target.

Kettlebread Deli will be closing both of their locations at the end of business this Saturday, February 7th. The popular restaurant serves sandwiches, salads, soups, scratch-made desserts, and much more.
The owner cites increases in costs (energy, ingredients, labors, etc.) for the closure. Future plans for the brand include baking and retail sales of their famous Kettlebread along with housemade dinner rolls & condiments. Discussions are on-going for their future. Kettlebread Deli is located at: -491 College Hwy, Southwick, MA -105 Meadow St, Westfield, MA 01085 Their closing announcement reads: "Hello everyone. Due to the enormous increases in energy, ingredients, and labor, our day-to-day retail operations and occupancy costs have become impossible to sustain. Therefore, Kettlebread Deli will be closing our two store locations at the end of the day this Saturday February 7. But no sad goodbyes just yet… because this isn’t the end. We intend to continue making Kettlebread. After we wind down, a couple of us plan to quickly resume baking, then retailing the actual Kettlebread itself. Something we’ve never done. We’ll have all the varieties (and more no doubt if that is what we’re focused on) as well as our popular dinner rolls and condiments. We'll have them available both online with free delivery as well as through new channels. This will also help us retire debt and redeem gift cards. Discussions are already in motion, and we’ll share details soon. So, for now, the stores will be closing. The bread will not. More to come." Kettlebread Deli previously planned to franchise their concept, with plans to add 2 locations per year. A Start-Engine campaign raised $416,946.89 in investment to help fund their franchising hopes. 
Ocean State Job Lot will permanently close their Springfield location at 1317 Liberty Street in Springfield, part of the Springfield Plaza shopping center.
The store will close their doors at the end of March due to the expiration of the lease according to a press release from the company. Store employees are being offered equivalent positions at other area locations. Ocean State Job Lot will continue to operate other nearby locations in Springfield, Holyoke, and Chicopee. 
Saks Off 5th will be closing their 2 Massachusetts locations!
The Saks Off 5th stores in Wretham and Somerville will be closing their doors as part of the parent company’s bankruptcy filing. The stores are located at: -Wrentham, 1048 South Street at Wretham Village Premium Outlets -Somerville, 300 Canal Street at Assembly Row The stores will be permanently closing according to Saks’ website, though an exact closing date was not announced. Liquidation sales at both locations are expected to begin on 01/31. The Saks Off 5th website is now also liquidating. The majority of the off-price chain’s locations will be closing with only 12 planning to remain open. Existing gift cards will continue to be accepted through Saturday, February 14th. Returns/exchanges for merchandise purchased before the closing sales will be accepted in accordance with the company’s usual policies. All merchandise purchased during the closing sales beginning Saturday, January 31 will be final sale, and no returns or exchanges will be accepted. Toys R Us has officially opened their Holiday Pop-Up location at Holyoke Mall at Ingleside! The store took over the former Charlotte Russe space on the second level of the mall. Dick's House of Sports, the supersized version of a standard Dick's Sporting Goods, will occupy the former Sears store at the mall! The barricades advertising the new tenant were recently added to the mall on the former Sears space. The new Dick's House of Sports will be your new destination for all things sports! Get ready for new interactive areas of the store. It's more than a store. It's an experience. From baseball to yoga and wrestling to lacrosse, no matter how you stay active, they want to help you reach the top of your game. Not only do they have the top gear you need to perform your best, but they have also created interactive spaces where you can find inspiration and practice your skills. Most Dick's House of Sports locations include rock climbing walls, batting cages/simulators, small putting greens, a turf field, and much more! You'll also find more experiential retail space throughout the new store. No timeline has been announced for their opening. Dick's previously operated a 'Warehouse Sale' store at the mall, in the space currently occupied by Mystery Bins. The Warehouse Sale store was a temporary pop-up selling discount clothing and equipment; the store closed in 2024 after 2 years.

Ollie's buys overstock, slightly imperfect, and leftover merchandise from the big retailers and suppliers. The store carries dry grocery, books, decorations, limited furniture, flooring, hardware, home decor, and other home goods. This will be Ollie's seventh Massachusetts location behind existing stores in Plymouth, Seekonk, Worcester, Pittsfield, New Bedford, and Fitchburg. No timeline has been announced for their opening. 
Conrad's Casual Dining, a family-owned chain of restaurants, will be opening a new location at the Village Shoppes of Canton in Massachusetts.
The new restaurant at 95 Washington Street in Canton will replace Bertucci's, which closed earlier this year. This will be the fifth location for the restaurant; they operate locations in Foxboro, Walpole, Norwood, and Needham. The restaurant serves burgers, pastas, pizza, sandwiches, fish, steak, and much more. You'll find an elaborate cocktail, wine, and beer list. No timeline has been announced for their opening. 
Spirit Christmas is coming back to Massachusetts this year with 2 locations!
The Christmas spinoff of Spirit Halloween will open this November in Milford and Manchester! The stores will be located at: -1360 South Washington Street in North Attleborough, former Bed Bath & Beyond -65 Faunce Corner Road in Dartmouth, former Christmas Tree Shop The new stores will sell Christmas decorations, gifts, stocking stuffers, and other festive offerings. Shoppers will be able to meet Santa in store. Stores are expected to open in early November, after Spirit Halloween wraps up their sales. Spirit Christmas had a single store in Massachusetts last year in Dartmouth. 
Urban Planet has opened their doors at the Holyoke Mall at Ingleside! The new fast-fashion retailer replaces the former Forever 21 store on the mall's second level.
Urban Planet is owned by YM, Inc; the owners of Charlotte Russe, Rue21, Mandee, and others. The company owns numerous other brands in Canada. With the opening of Urban Planet comes the closure of Charlotte Russe at the Holyoke Mall. The new store is co-branded as both Charlotte Russe and Urban Planet. The new store sells closing for women, men, and kids at affortable prices. They recently started a major expansion into the United States (from their native Canada.) The chain is seizing on the closure of Forever 21 to give them nicely appointed and modern stores, without the cost of a major fit-out. Check them out on the mall's top level near JC Penney! 
The new 7 Brew Coffee shop have their building dropped on-site this Friday, September 12th! They are looking for community businesses to giveaway beverages and have started hiring for the new location!
The growing chain of coffee shops will have their new 530 square foot prefabricated coffee shop dropped in place at 927 Riverdale Street in West Springfield, in front of Raymour & Flanigan. The chain utilizes pre-built structures to help speed up construction. Buildings come in 3-4 pieces typically and are lowered into place by a chain in a matter of hours. It is definitely a sight to be seen, a flying coffee shop. The building drop is expected to start at 8am. The new coffee shop is expected to open in November 2025, creating 65 jobs in the local community. They recently started hiring for the new location and will begin holding interviews over the next two weeks. Fancy Bagels is NOW OPEN in Agawam!
The new bagels shop has opened at Southgate Shopping Plaza at 838 Suffield Street in Agawam! The eatery is located next door to Geissler's, the former Agawam Medical Supply space. The menu includes dozens of varieties of bagels, breakfast sandwiches, lox, lunch sandwiches, soups, and much more. Drinks include coffee, teas, frozen coffees, hot chocolate, soda, juices, and others. The shop also carries gluten free bread and bagels for customers with those restrictions! Plan B will be closing 3 of their 6 locations including their location at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield!
The burger chain will close the three locations by August 31st according to a statement from the restaurant group. The locations include: -Hartford at 35 Front Street, part of the Front Street District -West Hartford at 138 Park Street -Springfield at 1000 W Columbus Avenue, in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame The chain's Connecticut locations in Simsbury, Glastonbury, and Milford will remain open, serving Plan B's signature high-quality burgers, bourbon, and American craft beer. All affected staff members will receive severance pay. Some employees will be offered roles at the chain's other locations. All gift cards will be honored at remaining locations. Plan B is owned by Locals 8 Hospitality. They own other concepts including Butchers & Bakers in Farmington CT, The Diamond in Glastonbury CT, and Famous 4th Street Delicatessen in Philadelphia PA. 
Claire's has a buyer!
The chain of piercing and accessories shops will be sold to private equity firm Ames Watson. The chain has over 1,200 stores across the US, with plans to move forward with up to 950 locations. The sale is still subject to bankruptcy court approval. The planned sale comes as liquidation sales are being halted at most Claire's stores. Store closing signs were added to Claire's store last week, but were subsequently removed in previous days. Ames Watson is a private equity firm specializing in turning around struggling retailers. The firm's portfolio currently includes Lids, LidsU, Champion Teamwear, Fanatics, and others. Under the deal, Ames Watson will pay $104 million with a $36 million seller's note for the assets. Store closing sales continue at over 150 stores. Icing appears to be completely liquidating. Icing is Claire's sister store, their website states store closing sales are underway at all Icing stores. New tenants are coming soon to the Holyoke Mall at Ingleside! Joining the line-up includes new restaurants, s new clothing store, and a seasonal Halloween shop! -Urban Planet is coming soon to the mall's second floor! The clothing store will occupy the former Forever 21 space in the mall. Urban Planet is owned by YM, INC; parent company of Charlotte Russe and the newly reformed Rue21. Look for them to open late summer/fall. -Frozen D Lite is coming soon to the mall's first level! The frozen yogurt, smoothies, shakes, acai bowls, fresh juices, and more! They will be located next door to Mystery Bins below Target. -Mama G's Halal Kitchen will be opening this fall on the mall's second level! The new eatery will open in the former Latino's Cuisine space near JC Penney. The restaurant will serve rice plates, chicken shawarma, gyros, Philly cheese steak, and other quick bites. Mama G's currently has a location in NY at The Mall at Bay Plaza. -Spirit Halloween will be opening very soon in the former Burlington store on the mall's food court level! The store is currently being set up with temporary signage recently installed. -Another recent addition is the Human Claw Machine. The machine lets you become the claw! Get lowered into place and grab your prize. Find it on the first floor near Altitude Trampoline Park. -Not really a new addition but the exterior of the mall is receiving some much needed attention! The exterior of the mall is currently being painted white and the parking lots & sidewalks are being redone! Please be cautious of on-going construction as the areas are being milled and new pavement added. These new additions will be joined by the previously report Pickleball Kingdom, Ozzy Barber Shop, and Uncle Cho's Fish & Chips. Other newly opened additions include the new JD Sports, Milan Menswear, Mystery Bins, Fun On Target Airsoft, Perfume Gallery, and Anugraha (relocated). 
Claire's and Icing will start the liquidation of all their stores! The mall mainstays announced their pending liquidation on their website with their 'One Last Sparkle' sale.
Both stores offer piercings and sell accessories, jewelry, and beauty items. Liquidation of the chain's fleet of stores have commenced. Claire's has numerous locations at malls throughout Massachusetts.
