The Church of Assumption in Manchester could lose its regular mass under a new proposal by the Parish.
Under this new proposal, regular mass at The Church of Assumption would not take place starting in March. Instead Mass would take place at the Parish’s other churches including Saint James, Saint Bridget, and Saint Bartholomew. The proposed schedule would be: Saturday Mass at 4:30pm at Saint James Sunday Mass at 8:00am at Saint Bridget Sunday Mass at 9:30am and 5:00pm at Saint Bartholomew Sunday Mass at 11:00am at Saint James The Church of Assumption would not hold regular mass but would remain open for special mass during holidays, weddings, funerals, and other regular religious activities aside from mass. The proposal is seeing some pushback from regular church goers. The biggest issue with the proposal (according to the opposition to the plan) is ADA and accessibility concerns. Assumption is thought to be the most accessible church. The other churches either lack ramps, compliant doors, door operators, and/or other helpful amenities for those with mobility issues. The Archdiocese has a plan, named ‘Parish 2030’, that would see all the churches combined into one large building next to the current Saint James building. The church is moving forward with design and fundraising for the project. Read more about this plan here: http://www.theconnecticutscoop.com/.../manchester...
