The US Bankruptcy court has approved the sale of The Shoppes at Buckland Hills to Namdar Realty Group; the landlord behind Meriden Mall, Enfield Square Mall, Crystal Mall, Trumbull Mall. and countless other struggling mall across the United States.
The 1.2 million square foot mall in Manchester is being sold for $25.8 million to Namdar and Mason Asset Management. The deal is expected to close shortly. Namdar and Mason Asset Management owns and operate the majority of the deadmalls in the United States. The company purchases distressed malls around the country and let them fall into disrepair, while appealing tax assessments and selling off parcels of land. In 2023 Enfield threatened to shut their mall down over failure to repair building safety systems. Earlier that same year, the town demolished a portion of the Macy's building after the roof collapsed and the mall owner failed to act in a quick manner. Local officials have privately expressed concerns with the sale to Namdar, and plan to keep a close eye on the condition of the mall. The mall's current manager, Spinoso, was appointed as a receiver while the property was going through bankruptcy. Spinoso ushered in new national tenants during their tenure including Gong Cha, BoxLunch, Hungry Pot, EA Teriyaki, Snipes, and others.
