EAST HARTFORD SCOOP: Demolition complete at Silver Lane Plaza, Replacement moving forward!4/21/2025 Demolition work has been completed at the site of the Silver Lane Plaza. The 3-building complex was demolished by the Town of East Hartford after years of being blighted.
The plaza was once home to a bustling commercial center with Walgreens, JM Fields, Stop & Shop, Woolworth's, and others in the past. The plaza was built in 1963-1965; rotating tenants throughout the years while some space remained vacant. The plaza was most recently occupied by Bare Bones Boxing, JE Mart, Exotic Superpet, Toby's Peruvian, Pho House, and many others. Many tenants found new homes throughout the area. Bare Bones Boxing relocated to a new site at 467 Silver Lane. JE Mart relocated to the Manchester Parkade at 378 Middle Turnpike West. Toby's Peruvian relocated to a new space in Vernon at 195 Hartford Turnpike. Pho House moved to Andover, occupying a former Chinese restaurant at 144 US-6. The site will eventually be home to a new development by Grossman Development Group and Charter Realty. The development would see the construction of 114 housing units (in single family and townhouse units) and about 52,000 square feet of retail, office, and restaurant space spread over 5 buildings. The Town of East Hartford will help the developer secure a $10 million grant to incentivize the project; though it is still subject to bond commission approval.
