Wingstop is coming to Litchfield County!
The fast-casual chicken restaurant received site plan approval by the Planning & Zoning Commission for its new location at 1076 East Main Street in Torrington, the former Cumberland Farms space. Wingstop would renovate the interior of the former convenience store into a new restaurant. The parking lot will be reconfigured to provide more parking where the gas-pump island was previously located. New landscaping beds are also planned to be added. The restaurant sells chicken wings, chicken sandwiches, tenders, fries, cajun fried corn, and much more. Wings are served in over 15 different flavors and coating with a variety of sauces. A new retro shop is coming soon to Winsted!
Gages Retro Rewind will be opening its doors on September 12th at 460 Main Street in Winsted! Final touches are now underway with the items now being stocked. The new store will transport customers back in time to the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. The store will be stocked to the brim with retro games, toys, media, comics, trading cards, and much more! Find your favorite movies on VHS or DVD, your favorites games on a variety of throwback systems, or a forgotten favorite toy. Whether you are looking for a long-lost games, Carebear, or a Tamagotchi; look no further than Gages Retro Rewind! The locally owned donut shop closed in early July to complete an extensive renovation of their building at 429 Winsted Road in Torrington. They reopened early last week. Check out their newly refreshed space with new cabinetry, finishes, and a renew look. You’ll still find the same friendly faces behind the counter and all your favorites in the case. The eatery features a variety of delicious freshly made donuts and pastries, along with bagels, coffee, egg sandwiches, muffins, and much more. Check them out at 429 Winsted Road in Torrington! 
A local country store has announced their planned closure.
Cleveland's CountryStore announced on their social media that it will close its doors after 20 years of business. The business's final day of operation is planned for September 11th, but could happen sooner based on inventory. The store is located at 655 Main Street in Plymouth. Stop in and shop their closing sale with inventory now buy one get one free, excluding ice cream, food, chips, and drinks. The store's announcement reads: "It’s Chris and John from Cleveland’s. After 20 years, we’ve made the difficult decision to permanently close on September 11th (possibly sooner, depending on inventory). This was not an easy decision, but it’s time for our family to close this chapter and focus on new opportunities. To help clear out inventory, EVERYTHING is BUY ONE, GET ONE FREE until we close! (Excludes ice cream, food, chips & drinks.) Please be patient with our team as we expect to be extremely busy over the next few weeks. No news stations or cameras, please. We want our employees to be able to focus on taking care of our customers. Thank you, Plymouth, for 20 incredible years of support. Cleveland’s has been a huge part of our family’s legacy, and we are so grateful." Cleveland's Country Store previously operated a second outpost in Torrington as well. The Torrington location closed is doors at the end of May, ending a 2 years run at the former Carbone's Market. Stop in before September 11th and say goodbye to a Plymouth landmark. 
A new hobby shop is coming to Torrington!
Brickroad Hobby is coming soon to 20 East Main Street in Downtown Torrington! They are anticipated to open in mid-July. The space was previously home to The Nutmeg Fudge Company before they moved to a new location down the street. The new hobby shop will sell a variety of hobby & art supplies as well as RC airplanes/cars, tabletop gaming, rockets, BMX bikes, and much more according to their Facebook page. Carvel has officially returned to Watertown!
The ice cream shop reopened its doors yesterday after a couple month closure. They are located at 1400 Main Street in Watertown. G’s Burgers announced earlier this week that Carvel would be returning to their longtime space next door to G’s Burgers. The ice cream shop closed late last year alongside other Carvel locations in Waterbury and Naugatuck. The Waterbury location recently reopened under The Soft Serve Factory name; while the Naugatuck location recently reopened as Twin Scoops. Stop in and enjoy a sweet treat! 
Clevelands Country Store has announced the closure of their Torrington location.
The country store will be closing indefinitely on May 29th; the store is located at 221 Oak Avenue in Torrington. The country store's Plymouth location will remain open. The owner's cite on-going roadwork for the past two years as a reason for the closure along with increasing costs related to labor, insurance, cost of goods, and electricity. They will now focus on their successful location in Plymouth where they have operated for 20 years. The closing statement reads: "This may come as a shock to many, but as of Friday (5/29), we are closing our Torrington location indefinitely. We want to emphasize that our Plymouth location will still be up and running!!! We want to thank all of our loyal Torrington customers who supported us over the past two years. We are closing down for a couple of reasons. The first reason we are closing is because of the roadwork. For the past two years, the roadwork has negatively impacted the business. The second reason we are closing is because the industry itself has changed a lot. Labor costs, insurance, cost of goods, electricity, have all skyrocketed. At the end of the day, these are things we cannot control, and even after raising prices to hedge it, we are not doing enough volume to justify the business running itself. The third reason we are closing is because we must focus on our successful businesses. We own several other successful companies that we must focus on. Our Plymouth store has been established for 20 years, and we look forward to seeing many Torrington regulars in that location. We have made many friends in this adventure in Torrington, and we hope to see and serve you guys in Plymouth." The country store opened in February 2024 replacing the longtime tenant, Carbone's Market, which closed in November 2023 after 78 years. Something out-of-this-world has opened in Watertown!
