General Dynamics Electric Boat (EB) has announced their purchase of the Crystal Mall in Waterford! The announcement was made at a press conference with Governor Ned Lamont.
The sale of the mall does not include the former Sears building, which is owned by a separate company. Electric Boat will now occupy 542,000 square feet of space on-site. Electric Boat has previously purchased the Macy's building in June with plans to convert it into new office and lab space for the submarine manufacturer. Electric Boat will refurbish the location to provide space for a range of functions related to its submarine production. Employees are anticipates to begin working on-site in the middle of 2027 at the earliest. The new space is expected to have between 4,000 and 5,000 employees. Electric Boat will work with current tenants of the mall for their next steps. The submarine manufacturer was recent awarded a contract for $642 million for modifications to previously awarded work. General Dynamics Electric Boat designs, builds, repairs and modernizes nuclear submarines for the U.S. Navy. Headquartered in Groton, Connecticut, it employs more than 24,000 people.
