Owner of The Place 2 Be and Raw Bar Gjinovefa (Gina) Luari has been arrested on two charges including 'Second Degreee Larceny' and 'Issuing A Bad Check Over $2,000' according to court records published yesterday.
The arrest stemmed from a criminal case investigation by the East Hartford Police Department. Officer Jamel Brown met with the manager of Restaurant Equipment Paradise in East Hartford when Luari allegedly issued two checks to the company, one for $2,620.46 and one for $8,201.20, which were from a closed account. The manager alleges this is approximately the fifth time Gina has wrote a bad check according to the warrant affidavit. Luari was arrested on September 17th by the East Hartford Police Department according to criminal court docket. Her next court date on the charges will be on October 22nd at 10am at Manchester GA 12 Courthouse. She is represented by The Freeman Law Firm. Important to note, Luari is innocent until proven guilty. Luari and The Place 2 Be (TP2B) have been entrenched in lawsuits from Landlords, a supplier, and contractors. Landlords allege non-payment of rent at multiple locations, with the court overseeing payments as part of a stipulation agreeement. The flagship TP2B restaurants and Raw were shuttered by Department of Revenue Service last month after having their sales & tax permits revoked. Restaurants have reopened in previous weeks. US Foods, the food supplier for her restaurants, is suing Luari, the New Haven TP2B, and the West Hartford TP2B alleging failure to pay for goods or services rendering totaling nearly $12,500 between the two cases. Woodcock Refrigeration Co is also suing Luari and the West Hartford location for $5,640.35 for HVAC products, repairs, services rendered in June; the complaint alleges the restaurant issued a check that had insufficient funds for payment.
