Had to opportunity to stop by one of Newtown's newest restaurants, Mangia Mi East, owned by Food Network's Rebecca White! The restaurant opened in 2024, located at 24 Glen Road in the Sandy Hook section of Newtown. The restaurant is owned by Rebecca White, the winner of Food Network's Cooks vs Cons in 2016. The Italian restaurant in Newtown is the East Coast counterpart to Mangia Mi West, located in Napa Valley (Calistoga, CA). The restaurant is beautiful inside, with a warm red paint with white trim. The restaurant is set in a Victorian house, boasting a wrap around porch for outdoor dining. Mangia Mi has an open kitchen, where you can watch the chef prepare your food fresh! We tried a number of items including their signature New Haven-style Apizza (some say it rivals the great Frank Pepe's), their well regarded Carbonara, Giant Meatballs, and a Chicken Milanese. All were delicious and filling! The Chicken Milanese was enough to feed an army. Make sure you try their delicious Tiramisu Martini for a fun twist on an Espresso Martini. All the pastas are house made, vegetables & fruits are locally sources, and they carry a wide variety of wines including a curated selection from Napa Valley. The menu consists of numerous items including sandwiches, pastas, pizza (with their award-winning gluten free crust available!), Italian classics, burgers, lobster rolls, build-your-own antipasto, and much more.
