Smithland Pet & Garden Center has announced the liquidation of all 13 locations in the locally-owned chain.
Smithland will permanently close all 13 locations throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts due to difficult economic and competitive conditions. The chain operates stores under the Smithland name (formerly Agway and Dave's Soda & Pet City). The chain has Connecticut locations in: -Bethel at 74 South Street -Manchester at 33 Adams Street -Middlefield at 147 Meriden Road -North Branford at 11 Whitewood Lane -North Haven at 66 State Street -Old Saybrook at 923 Boston Post Road -Southington at 1198 Queen Street The chain has Massachusetts locations in: -Agawam at 151 Springfield Street -Hadley at 335 Russell Street -Ludlow at 433 Center Street -Northampton at 142 North King Street -Ware at 144 West Street -Westfield at 81 Springfield Road A liquidation sale will begin shortly, but a 'Customer Appreciation Sale' will start on May 6th and run through May 11th , offering 10% off all non-sale items. A final liquidation is planned to run through the end of June or until stock runs out. Ellington Agway is a separately owned business and will not be affected by the closing of Smithland.
