The owner of Carbone's Ristorante has proposed plans to redevelop their old Franklin Avenue location in a new three-story mixed-use building.
The owners applied for a zone change for 80 Goodrich Sreet, a single family home adjacent to the former restaurant at 588/596 Franklin Avenue in Hartford. The land is currently zoned for a single famiy unit; the proposed zoning is MS-2 (Main Street) allowing for storefronts, cottage commercial, general building, civic building, apartment buildings, and stacked flats. Plans submitted with the zone change show a new 3-story buiding with 2 detached garages on the site of the former restaurant and single family home. The ground floor would have 5,400 square feet of leaseable area. The upper levels are not defined to a use, but the garages and zoning point towards apartments. The building will also have a roof terrance. Carbone's Ristorante closed during the pandemic after over 80 years of fine dining on Franklin Avenue. The restaurant will be reborn next year on Front Street, taking over the former cinema space for a new Carbone's Ristorante. The Carbone family also operate Carbone's Prime steakhouse in Rocky Hill and Carbone's Kitchen in Bloomfield.
