Jersey Mike's is coming soon to Clinton and has announced their opening date in Avon! Jersey Mike's is planning a new location for Clinton at 7 Glenwood Road. The latest location for the sandwich shop chain will occupy a portion of the former DXL store space. No word yet on what might open in the other portion of the DXL space. The sandwich shop chain will officially open their new Avon location on April 9th! The shop will be located at 186 West Main Street in Avon, part of a new development with Teriyaki Madness and PeoplesBank. Jersey Mikes is rapidly expanding across Connecticut, with new locations recently opened in Vernon and Berlin; and new locations planned in West Hartford and Killingly.

Stratford-based Frenchies Coffee Bar is coming soon to the new Steelpointe Harbor development!
The coffee shop has leased 1,200 square feet of space in the new development. Their space will be located near the lobby of the residential portion of the development, offering water-views. This would be the third location for the coffee shop. Their flagship location is 2420 Main Street in Stratford CT and a seasonal location at 1 Silver Sands State Park in Milford CT. The coffee shop serves drip and espresso-based coffees, hot chocolate, matcha, iced trea, lemonade, pastries, sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches and more. A number of stores have closed in Waterford, though one is relocating nearby! -Music & Arts Center has closed their location at Waterford Commons. The store was located next to Smashburger in the plaza. Music & Arts Center is owned by Guitar Center, but sold and rented all instrument -Party City has permanently closed their location at Waterford Commons. The closure was due to the complete liquidation of the chain. No word yet on a replacement tenant. -T Shirt World has closed their location at Crystal Mall, but won’t be closed for long. The store is relocating to Tanger Outlets Foxwoods. Look for them to reopen soon on the main concourse near White House Black Market. -Forever 21’s last day is today, 03/30. The store will permanently close their store at Crystal Mall. The store was part of the first wave of store closings during Forever 21’s bankruptcy, they are closing all of their stores including the nearby Foxwoods location. -FYE has permanently closed their stores including at Crystal Mall. The longtime tenant closed alongside their stores in Danbury, Meriden, and Waterbury. Their lone CT location is now in Trumbull. Demolition work is nearly complete for the new Carbone's Ristorante on Front Street in Hartford! The new location for the famed Hartford landmark will be a portion of the former Apple Cinemas on Front Street. They will occupy 11,100 square feet. Carbone’s previous location in Hartford closed during COVID and never reopened. Construction on the interior of the new restaurant will soon begin, no updated timeline has been announced for the opening. When the project was first announced in late 2023, they anticipated a late 2024 opening. I checked out their sister restaurant, Carbone's Prime, in Rocky Hill last week. The food is amazing! Delicious pizzas, pastas, calamari. Definitely worth checking out while this location is under construction! Stay tuned for a run down post of Hartford business news coming up! Cromwell's newest restaurant is planned to soft open next week!
El Tenampa Taqueria is opening soon at 543 Main Street in Cromwell, a former Subway. The new restaurant is planned to soft open next week starting Monday, March 31st! El Tenampa will be owned by Lazaro Fabian. The menu will consist of a variety of tacos, burritos, tortas, and aguas frescas. Meats for tacos, burritos, and tortas include steak, chicken, pastor, carnitas, birria, and chorizo. A new grocer and plaza are coming to Trumbull!
The Planning and Zoning Commission approved the plans for a new 35,350 square foot development. The plaza would include a 26,000 square foot grocery store, an urgent care center, a restaurant, and a fast food eatery. The plaza would be located at 1 Trefoil Drive, currently home to US Sign. The Connecticut Scoop is hearing the planned grocery store is The Fresh Market; though nothing has been confirmed by corporate (as it the typical path until construction is further along). They currently have 3 Connecticut locations in Avon, Guilford, and Westport. A new location will open in April in Wethersfield with more expansion planned for the state. No timeline has been announced for construction. Stay tuned for more information as the project moves forward! A number of new businesses are coming to Rocky Hill and Wethersfield!
-Cugino's Restaurant is coming soon to the former Rocky Hill Pizza space at 2132 Silas Deane Highway. The restaurant will be owned by Skender and Faik Cirikovic; owners of the former Cugino's location in Cheshire. -Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard is permanently closed in Rocky Hill according to corporate. The ice cream shop was located at 1783 Silas Deane Highway. The building has been sold to ATH Investments LLC (owned by Antonia Trejo) according to sale records filed on 03/24/25. Trejo owns Taqueria La Grande in West Hartford and New Britain. It appears this property will be home to their next location of the restaurant according to a new LLC named Taqueria La Grande III. Stay tuned! -Konaseema Cuisine is coming soon to 1869 Silas Deane Highway, the former Masalaa/Marina Indian restaurant. The new Indian restaurant will open soon after brief renovations. -RoadRunners Gas Station will open a new location later this year at 940 Cromwell Avenue, a former Mobil gas station. The new location will be RoadRunners second location in Rocky Hill, they have an existing location at 2204 Silas Deane Highway. -Riley's Hot Dog and Burger Gourmet is looking for a 3,000 square foot space on Cromwell Avenue for a new location! The famed hot dog restaurant is reportedly looking at a space at Town Center West. Nothing is finalized yet. -Atlantis Fresh Market is looking rebuild their current gas station at 2720 Main Street in Rocky Hill. If approved, a new super-sized Atlantis Fresh Market building would be built on the adjacent commercial site (now home to a barbershop.) The plan is still subject to local approvals. -The Fresh Market in Wethersfield will officially open on April 23rd according to corporate and our friends at The Scoop Wethersfield. The grocery store will be located at 1065 Silas Deane Highway in Wethersfield and will feature hot & fresh breakfast, a smoothie bar, pizza, family style meals to go, a bakery, grab n go sandwiches & salads, and much more.
A new indoor play facility is moving into Benny’s plaza in Groton!

Arrigoni Winery & Cider Co. will officially reopen for the season on April 5th!
The winery and cidery will open on April 5gh for another incredible season on wine and cider. The hours, thus far, will be Saturday and Sunday from 11am-6pm. Arrigoni Winery is located at 1287 Portland-Cobalt Road in Portland. They serve a variety of wines including sparkling, red, white, reserves, blush, fruit, port-style, sangria, and seasonal flavors. DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse is returning to Stamford!
DSW is coming soon to Ridgeway Shopping Center at 2113 Summer Street. The shoe store will occupy 19,823 square feet in the plaza, formerly home to Ashley Furniture. Construction is planned to begin in June with a late summer opening! This marks the return of DSW to Stamford. The chain previously operated a store at High Ridge Center, at 1145 High Ridge Road. Their previous space at High Ridge Center will soon be home to Barnes & Noble.
El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant is NOW OPEN in Simsbury! The new Mexican eatery opened on March 17th at 928 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury.

Next Door has announced they will be permanently closing on April 6th at the end of service. The pizza place is located at 175 Humphrey Street in New Haven.
The pizza place originally opened in 2018 in the former Humphrey's restaurant space. The pizza shop was an offshoot of Big Green Truck Pizza, CT's first mobile brick oven pizza established in 2003. Big Green Truck Pizza was sold to new owners in 2020. Next Door offers great New Haven style apizza with an eclectic menu that serves up something for everyone including tasty gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options. The restaurant was set to be sold to Israel Lopez according to a January article in the Hartford Courant. At the time of the article, Doug Coffin (owner) planned to retire. It appears the planned deal was never finalized. The deal was scuttled by a last minute rent increase by the landlord according to a reputable source. Riley's Hot Dog and Burger Gourmet is looking for a 3,000 square foot space on Cromwell Avenue for a new location! The famed hot dog restaurant is reportedly looking at a space at Town Center West. Nothing is finalized yet. Economic and Business Development Manager Alandra Maine brought up the potential opening of the Riley's at the January 14th meeting of the Economic Development Commission. The owners of Kebab House / Mozaic Cafe have purchased Liberty Pizza in Enfield!
The pizza shop has been renamed Vivaldi’s Pizza, this will be their third pizza shop. The eatery is located at 169 Elm Street in Enfield. The other two locations are in Lee, MA and Pittsfield, MA. The owners of Kebab House & Mosaic Cafe are looking for new locations for the restaurants because of the planned closure and demolition of the Enfield Square Mall. They hope to include some of customer’s favorites from both restaurants at Vivaldi’s Pizza until they find a new location for their Enfield Square eateries. The bagelry won the Brooklyn Bagelfest "Best Bagel" for two years in a row. -Swarvoski is coming to 61 Main Street. The jewelry store will replace 7 For All Mankind, a clothing store. Look for them to open soon. Bagel Bros & Co will open their newest location on Monday, March 24th! The new bagel shop can be found at 144 Oxford Road in Oxford, in the Tommy K's Plaza. Frisbie's Dairy Barn is moving from Bloomfield to Windsor!
The Frisbie's Dairy Barn location at Maple Hill Farm (12 Burr Road) in Bloomfield is relocating to the new Noble Gas Station in Windsor at 2200 Day Hill Road. The new location only 10 minutes away; and is expected to open in the coming weeks. It will feature a walk-up window, outdoor seating, and plenty of parking. The Bloomfield location opened in 2021, replacing the Maple Hill Farm's Scoop Shoppe at the property. The Miller family (owners of Maple Hill Farm) recently sold the property. The Frisbie's chain was started in 2015 by the Frisbie family; the owners of Noble Gas Stations. Frisbie's was sold to the Parks family in previous years, who continue to operate the 3 locations including New Britain, Windsor, and Attleboro. Frisbie's previously operated a location in Providence, RI as well. The dairy barn also provides ice cream for Blue Heron Creamery (East Lyme, Hartford at Parkville Market, & Enfield) and Farmstead Ice Cream at Tonn’s Marketplace in Burlington. UPDATED AGAIN! The opening date for CT's first Great Wolf Lodge is May 9th, not April 25th. Despite the website showing April 25th as the grand opening and being able to book for that date; the opening date is going to be May 9th according to corporate representatives.
