The toy store will be opening soon inside the former Banana Republic at the outdoor shopping center. They will be open through the holiday season and close in January 2026! The Toys “R” Us pop-up will feature a curated selection of the season’s most sought-after toys, games, and gifts for kids of all ages — including exclusive merchandise, family favorites, and the joyful shopping experience generations of fans Know and love. A new bagel shop has opened on Main Street in Middletown!
Cohen's Bagel Company is NOW OPEN at 413 Main Street in Middletown; replacing Story and Soil inside Wesleyan RJ Julia Bookstore. The new bagel shop opened last week inside the Main Street bookshop, expanding from Cohen's original location in Madison, CT. The menu features a variety of bagels with various topping including cream cheese, butter, hummus, peanut butter, Nutella, or jams. Customers will also find a selection of breakfast sandwiches, Lox, lunch sandwiches, pastries, salads, soups, and much more! They also serve espresso-based beverages and smoothies. Chase Bank is planning a new bank branch in Derby! The bank plans to take over the former Starbucks at 552 New Haven Avenue in Derby. The existing building would be demolished and a new bank without a drive-thru would be constructed. Plans are still subject to local approvals. Ollie's Bargain Outlet is coming soon to Hilltop Commons. The deep-discount retailer will be taking over the former American Freight space near Dollar Tree. The store recently applied for building permits for their fit-out. The store offers deep deals on health & beauty, food, homegoods, decors, and much more. Look for them to open in 2026! The 1851 Kitchen & Cocktail Bar is NOW OPEN in Cromwell!
The new restaurant is located at 150 Sebethe Drive in Cromwell, the former home of Taphouse 150/The OC Tavern. The name is derived from the year Cromwell was settled, 1851. The new eatery serves ‘New American’ cuisine (American food with global influences) with craft cocktails and a great beer selection too. Their tagline is “Vintage vibes, modern mixology.” Menu highlights include an 1851 NY Strip; Faroe Island Salmon; Brisket Burgers; Southern Caprese Salad; Ahi Tuna Tostadas and more. The off-price version of the high-end Saks Department Store is located at 1437 New Britain Avenue in West Hartford, part of The Corbin Collection. The store opened in 2018. The store is expected to close in January 2026 as the retailer refines their store portfolio to focus on high-revenue locations. Saks Off Fifth has other CT locations in Stamford and Clinton. The award-winning bakery will close this Saturday, November 8th. Though pre-orders will be accepted for pickup through November 15th. The bakery is located at 250 Albany Turnpike in Canton, CT. CakeGypsy has been won numerous awards in their many years of business. The bakery has over 60 different flavors including vegan and gluten free options. The bakery once had locations in Avon and Granby, and previously eyed West Hartford for an expansion. The owner's announcement reads: "Dear valued customers, After many wonderful years of sharing life’s sweet moments with you, it’s time for me to retire. The struggling restaurant chain has permanently shuttered their location at 160 River Road in Lisbon. The restaurant was part of the Lisbon Landing shopping center. Ruby Tuesday now has a single Connecticut location remaining in Windsor Locks. The chain once had over a dozen locations in the State including in Manchester, Windham, Farmington, Meriden, Enfield, Cromwell, Danbury, Waterford, Shelton, North Haven, Bristol, and many more. It's unclear when the restaurant's final day of business was. The location is now listed as permanently closed on their website and Google profile. Umi Sushi & Seafood Buffet is coming soon to 61 Washington Avenue in North Haven! The new buffet replaces the former Hantang Buffet that closed in 2018. The buffet will offer a delicious variety of fresh sushi, seafood, and international dishes in a welcoming atmosphere. You'll find other options including grill items, Wok-made entrees, ramen, and plenty of desserts. The new buffet is part of a national chain with locations around the country. Umi is eyeing an additional CT location in Wethersfield according to their website; though an exact location has not been announced. Stay tuned for more information on their opening! The new grocery store will be built on a portion of the parking lot and grass area on the Southern portion of Westfarms’ property, near JCPenney. The new building will be roughly 53,000 square feet. The jewelry store will leave their longtime space at Westfarms after over 40 years and open a new flagship store at 1599 Southeast Road in Farmington, the current Barnes & Noble store! The move is planned for August 2026 and marks an exciting new chapter for the family-owned jeweler. The new 6,000-square-foot flagship store will provide more space for inventory, a larger bridal area, and a wider selection of fine jewelry, all showcased in a beautifully designed, open-concept layout that reflects the brand’s commitment to quality and customer care. “After four decades in the mall, we’re thrilled to expand into a flagship location that allows us to showcase more jewelry and create a more personal, comfortable shopping experience,” said Michael Hannoush, owner of Hannoush Jewelers. Located across from the Westfarms Mall Nordstrom entrance, the new store will offer convenient parking, better visibility, and an elevated shopping experience for both new and loyal customers. The Hannoush family purchased the building earlier this year. Hannoush Jewelers will be joined by Goldfish Swim School at the rear of the property. A third space is available for lease, with between 6,000 and 11,900 square feet availabe for a future tenant. Barnes & Noble will leave their longtime space in the building. The book store has not announced their new location, but plans to relocate to a new space in the area next year; ahead of the jewelry store's renovation & relocation. M&T Bank is planning a new branch in Torrington!
The bank is planning to open a new full-service branch at 25 Pineridge Road in Torrington, the former Sports Palace space. Renovations are planned for the space, including site improvements. According to plans submitted to the town, the bank would complete a major renovation to the site. Plans include a new drive-up ATM, a new parking lot, new landscaping, and new interior fit-out for the bank branch. No opening timeline has been announced for the bank branch. Kilwins has announced they will close their West Hartford location at the end of November.
The chocolate and ice cream shop is located at 38 Isham Road in West Hartford, part of Blue Back Square. The shop opened in Spring of 2023. The franchisees, Kathleen & Jay Allen, made the announcement earlier today. The post reads: ‘After nearly three wonderful years, we will be closing our doors at the end of November. This decision was not easy, as being part of this community has been such a joy. We would like to sincerely thank everyone for welcoming us, supporting our store, and allowing us to be a part of your celebrations, big and small. From birthdays and anniversaries to spontaneous sweet treats, it has been a privilege to share in your special moments. Your kindness and loyalty have meant the world to us. Gift cards can be used at all other Kilwins locations. Mike's Pizza Palace has closed their doors in Naugatuck; but hopes to reopen nearby.
The pizza shop closed their doors at the end of business yesterday according to a post on their social media. The restaurant has been serving the community for nearly 50 years. The shop was located at 28 Church Street in Naugatuck. The building is being sold, leading to the closure. The restaurant is looking to reopen nearby in the future. Their announcement reads: “After serving Naugatuck for almost five decades, yesterday was our last day open at this location. The building is being sold, and like many small businesses, we've faced some tough challenges that made this day come much sooner than we hoped. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who's supported Mike's Pizza through the years. Generations of families, loyal customers, teams, and friends who've made this place feel like home. We've shared a lot of memories, laughs, and late night pizzas, and we're grateful for every one of them. This isn't goodbye, it's just see you later. We're hopeful to reopen somewhere new and continue serving the community that's been so good to us.” 7 Brew Coffee has landed in North Haven, quite literally. The coffee shop had their prefabricated building dropped in place yesterday. The coffee shop is located at 117 Washington Avenue in North Haven, in the Washington Commons parking lot. The shop serves a number of beverages including 'The 7 Originals', coffee flavors like blondie, brunette, smooth 7, white chocolate mocha, cinnamon roll, german chocolate, and sweet & salty. The shop also features 7 Energy (an iced energy drink with numerous flavors), smoothies, milkshakes, teas, lemonades, 7 Fizz (sparkling water with any flavor), cold brew, and classic espresso and coffee drinks. The new shop features the chain’s signature prefabricated 510 square foot building; supplemented by a 230 square foot cooler and storage building attached by a canopy. Rodeo Cannabis is coming soon to 1625 Silas Deane Highway in Rocky Hill. Work recently began at the old Tomato Joe’s space; including the painting of the exterior. Barnes & Noble is NOW OPEN at The Shops at Stone Bridge in Cheshire!
Take a look at the new store in our attached pictures from yesterday’s opening! The new B&N is located at 1991 Highland Avenue in Cheshire, part of The Shops at Stone Bridge development. The new store is roughly 18,000 square feet featuring books, toys, games, magazines, gift items and more, including a B&N Café. The store also sells physical media of music like CDs and Vinyl. Barnes & Noble has been on an expansion spree across the country and in Connecticut. The chain has opened new locations in Stamford and Southbury earlier this year; and opened a new location in Meriden in 2024. No other new locations have been formally announced; though we have heard they are eyeing another space in CT! Big Y World Class Market is coming soon to Westfarms!
