A new flower shop is coming to town!
Nick Erlacher of New Britain Flower Shop (141 Broad Street, New Britain) is expanding his successful business with a second location, Berlin Flower Shop at 120 Mill Street! Nick is a renowned floral designer, known for his "signature European inspired floral designs and customer service". He has provided arrangements for pageants, as well as, but not limited to weddings and funerals. He is affectionately known as "The Flashy Florist"! Berlin Flower Shop will have space for small events and offer statewide delivery. The official opening was announced on Great Day Connecticut, which will take place on May 8th at 5:30pm.

The Family Dollar / Dollar Tree combo store in the Kensington section of town will be closing and reopen as a Dollar Tree Plus!
The store is located at 45 Chamberlain Highway, in Ferndale Plaza. They opened the combo concept store in March 2023, having two brands under one roof. A store closing sale starts today (4/14) with 30% off the entire store. The store will be remodeled into a Dollar Tree Plus concept and reopen shortly after. The duration of the sale depends on how fast stock depletes. Dollar Tree is parting ways with Family Dollar, which will be sold to private equity firms Brigade Capital Management and Macellum Capital Management for $1 billion. The sale will be finalized in June. Both brands will see several store closures, and Dollar Tree is planning more locations in the future. Previously, the Kensington location was home to longtime IGA affiliates Gnazzo's (still in Plainville) and Rogers Marketplace. Following those grocers, a short-lived independent store Ferndale Market Fresh occupied the space. Family Dollar had another standalone location for many years in Webster Square Shopping Center (now SIN Fitness) which closed in 2019. Dollar Tree opened a standalone location in Webster Square next to Ocean State Job Lot in 2017. 
Aroma Joe's Coffee has set the opening date for their new Berlin location!
The new coffee shop will open on Monday, April 14. They serve up several hot and cold drinks and food options in a fast paced, drive thru style format. Visit them on Monday at 458 Berlin Turnpike, next to the convenience store at Pit Stop gas station. There will be giveaways all week long as well as AJ's Rush energy drink offers. The franchisee is a local Wallingford resident who hopes to support the Berlin community in any way she can! It's official! Cafe Busy Bean Berlin (355 Main Street) will be moving to Steele Center in a newly constructed building at 29 Steele Boulevard. The old location on Main Street will be closing in a few weeks and the new location will open by the end of April. They will be combining their coffee and baked goods with bagels! They will join forces with Fancy Bagels in Farmington to create "Busy N Fancy" (name tentative). They are hiring for overnight bakers. Call them at 860-315-0844 if interested!  
Cozy Cup Bakery & Cafe will be having a soft opening today (January 31)! They will serve a breakfast and lunch menu including omelets, sandwiches, salads and of course coffee and baked goods! Cozy Cup is located at 259 New Britain Road, in the former Family's Bakery space. They will be open today from 9AM until 4PM. Regular hours will be Monday-Friday 6AM-4PM, Saturday 6AM-2PM and Closed Sundays. A grand opening will take place on Thursday, February 6. Stop by and see them today!  
Mek Mek's Heavenly Hands will have a soft opening beginning today (1/30)!
Mek Mek's will serve soul food favorites such as fried chicken, collard greens, cornbread and so much more. They started as a food truck and have brought their home cooking specialties to a quaint space in Berlin! Visit them at 520 High Road in the Fernadale Shopping Center in the former Zack's space. They are open today from 11:30am to 7:30pm. 
Demolition work has started for the new Chipotle Mexican Grill in Berlin at 1073 Farmington Avenue!
The location in Berlin was most recently home to Edward Jones, which moved to 10 Steele Boulevard. The existing building onsite was built in 2015-2016, replacing the former Mary’s Pastry Shoppe. A brand new Chipotle prototype building will be constructed on the site. The site plan was approved by the Planning & Zoning Commission in October The fast-food restaurant chain serves Mexican fare such as burritos, tacos and bowls. After an increase in business news in Berlin during the past year, The Newington Scoop created an extension of their page to dedicate to Berlin for the latest scoops! We are growing slowly but remain committed to keeping you informed! During 2024, Berlin welcomed several new businesses. Some of them include: -Art Studio of Connecticut -Dragon's Lair (2nd location) -Co-Op Vale -Fancy Sushi -The Farmer's Cow Calfé & Creamery -Forthestars Barbershop -Halal Munchies -Jersey Mike's Subs -Paragon Strength & Performance -Parishes The Artisan Bite -Pit Stop Gas -Seed Coffee and Eats -Starbucks -T-swirl Crepe -Cutting Edge CT and Zack's Burgers & Shakes moved to new locations within town, increasing their size and visibility. Also this year, 2 new housing developments began construction, Riverwalk Berlin Apartments and The Apartments at Turnpike Ridge. Several new projects are in planning stages or nearing completion including a new storage facility, the shopping center proposed for the corner of Deming Road and Berlin Turnpike, with a McDonald's pad, a Chipotle Mexican Grill on Farmington Avenue, Mek Mek's Heavenly Hands in Ferndale Plaza among others. Aroma Joe's, a coffee shop, plans to open their fourth Connecticut location in Berlin!
The coffee shop chain would be located in the new Pit Stop convenience store at 458 Berlin Turnpike in Berlin! Pit Stop is part of the Riverwalk Berlin Apartments development. Aroma Joe's has 2 CT locations currently, one in Bristol and the other in Waterbury, and has one location coming soon in Southington. This would be their fourth CT location. An opening date has not been annouced, though an article from Aroma Joe's mentions the location is planned to open by the end of the year. The coffee shop will feature a drive-thru. The chain is know for their hot and iced beverages; but also serve breakfast foods like muffins, sandwiches, donuts, and pastries. 
The new Jersey Mike's Subs plans to open on October 23rd!
The new Jersey Mike's will be located in the vacant space next door to Starbucks at 1041B Farmington Avenue. Jersey Mike's has installed a countdown banner for the opening! Jersey Mike's is quickly expanding around the country including many new locations opening around Connecticut. Another new location is planned for the area, stay tuned for those details soon! Starbucks opened in the space in March, replacing a paint store and Blockbuster before that. The building has been extensively renovated for the coffee shop to add a drive thru and modernize the entire building. |
