Carvel has officially returned to Watertown!

The ice cream shop reopened its doors yesterday after a couple month closure. They are located at 1400 Main Street in Watertown.

G’s Burgers announced earlier this week that Carvel would be returning to their longtime space next door to G’s Burgers.

The ice cream shop closed late last year alongside other Carvel locations in Waterbury and Naugatuck. The Waterbury location recently reopened under The Soft Serve Factory name; while the Naugatuck location recently reopened as Twin Scoops.

Clevelands Country Store has announced the closure of their Torrington location.

The country store will be closing indefinitely on May 29th; the store is located at 221 Oak Avenue in Torrington. The country store's Plymouth location will remain open.

The owner's cite on-going roadwork for the past two years as a reason for the closure along with increasing costs related to labor, insurance, cost of goods, and electricity. They will now focus on their successful location in Plymouth where they have operated for 20 years.

The closing statement reads: "This may come as a shock to many, but as of Friday (5/29), we are closing our Torrington location indefinitely. We want to emphasize that our Plymouth location will still be up and running!!! We want to thank all of our loyal Torrington customers who supported us over the past two years. We are closing down for a couple of reasons. The first reason we are closing is because of the roadwork. For the past two years, the roadwork has negatively impacted the business. The second reason we are closing is because the industry itself has changed a lot. Labor costs, insurance, cost of goods, electricity, have all skyrocketed. At the end of the day, these are things we cannot control, and even after raising prices to hedge it, we are not doing enough volume to justify the business running itself. The third reason we are closing is because we must focus on our successful businesses. We own several other successful companies that we must focus on. Our Plymouth store has been established for 20 years, and we look forward to seeing many Torrington regulars in that location. We have made many friends in this adventure in Torrington, and we hope to see and serve you guys in Plymouth."

The country store opened in February 2024 replacing the longtime tenant, Carbone's Market, which closed in November 2023 after 78 years.

Something out-of-this-world has opened in Watertown!

Galaxy Zone is NOW OPEN at 320 Sylvan Lake Road in the Oakville section of Watertown! The new children's entertainment center opened its doors yesterday, May 22nd, for their soft opening.

The new complex is home to a ton of fun children & family entertainment options including an indoor playgroud/climbing structure, laser tags, large arcade, snacks & refreshments, and much more. Winsted’s newest roadside eatery has set their opening date!

Skipper's will celebrate their official opening on May 16th from 11am to 9pm! The new restaurant is located at 898 Main Street in Winsted, the former Red Rooster Saloon space. The seasonal roadside outdoor eatery serves a diverse menu featuring locally sourced & fresh ingredients.

The menu includes burgers, chicken sandwiches, French dip and Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, hand-cut potatoes, onion rings (fried in beef tallow), ice cream, and much more! The majority of the menu will be available gluten free!
Guests will enjoy their meals outdoors at covered tables set on beautifully landscaped grounds. A small performance stage is planned for the north side of the property to host live music on weekends.

A new Honkytonk bar and music venue has opened in Terryville!

Nash in the Ville, Honkytonk is NOW OPEN at 372 Main Street in Terryville, the former site of Chute Gates Steakhouse & Saloon.

The new country bar celebrated their grand opening on Saturday with a sold out event. The event featured acts including Hippies & Cowboys, The Rakes and Austin Burr. They are taking the next few days to refine their operations and will open again on May 1st.

Nash in the Ville will feature popular country acts on their multi-level stage. You’ll also find a horse-shoe shaped bar, Southern-style restaurant (serving steak, burgers, shrimp, fries), and much more.

The Jameson Pub is back starting May 1st!

The Jameson Pub / Sports Bar & Grill will reopen their doors on May 1st from 4pm to 2am! The bar is located at 675 Main Street in Watertown.

The reopened pub will have a heavier focus on sports. The previous iteration featured live music most nights, a reason that was cited for their closure in February 2026.

J's Fresh Bagels (J'sfresh Bagels) has opened its doors in Thomaston! The new bagelry and sandwich shop is located at 131 Main Street. They celebrated their grand opening last week.

The new eatery serves breakfast & lunch including egg sandwiches, a variety of bagels & spreads, salads, lunch sandwiches, coffees, and much more! They also offer catering services for meetings & events with delivery available.

The new bagel shop is owned by area-residents Jonathan Gonzalez and July Chacon. Congratulations on your new business! Can’t wait to stop in.

A new barbecue restaurant is coming to an iconic site!

A new BBQ concept from the owners of Hindsight BBQ and Cowboy Butter BBQ will be opening in the space of Charcoal Chef at 670 Main Street in Woodbury!

Owner Jeff Schmidt will bring a full service BBQ joint to the iconic building. The new restaurant doesn’t have a name yet, but will bring the same quality to the place as their other eateries.

Charcoal Chef closed last year after nearly 70 years of business in Woodbury due to the owner’s retirement. The building officially sold on March 18th to Jeff Schmidt.

A new eatery is coming soon to Winsted!

Skippers is planning to open at 898 Main Street in Winsted, the former Red Rooster Saloon space. The seasonal roadside outdoor eatery would serve a diverse menu featuring locally sourced & fresh ingredients.

The menu will include burgers, chicken sandwiches, French dip and Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, hand-cut potatoes, and onion rings fried in beef tallow, along with ice cream and frozen desserts. The menu will eventually expand to include premium items such as fried whole-belly clams, salmon, and grilled prime steaks.

Guests will enjoy their meals outdoors at covered tables set on beautifully landscaped grounds. A small performance stage is planned for the north side of the property to host live music on weekends. The interior of the building will function exclusively as the kitchen, no indoor dining is being included in this project according to a PZC application submitted late last year.

Skipper’s will operate seasonally, opening in early spring each year beginning in 2026 and closing in the fall, weather permitting. Proposed hours of operation are Tuesday–Sunday, 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Year-round, Skipper’s will offer both on-site and off-site catering according to a PZC application submitted late last year.
