The exact location of the new indoor pickleball facility is not yet known. The mall has a number of vacant spaces including Sears, the former Alex Baby & Toy, former Christmas Tree Shop / Bob's Stores, or the soon-to-be vacant Burlington. We reached out to mall owner Pyramid Management Group for comment, they did not respond to our inquiries. One space it could be is the former Sears was recently put out to bid for contractors; the plan is to gut the space for a new tenant; the tenant was not identified in the plans. Pickleball Kingdom is a chain of indoor pickleball facilities across the U.S.. They currently have 60 locations, the closest location is currently in New Jersey. This is the second indoor pickleball facility coming to the area. We recently broke the news of a new facility coming to Springfield Plaza called Pickle Ball City. Pickleball City is coming soon to Springfield Plaza in Springfield, 1277 Liberty Street, the former Savers store. The new facility will feature a number of indoor regulation pickleball courts, pro shop, and other ancillary amenities! This would be Pickleball City’s second location. They have another location planned for Newington, CT. The space has sat vacant since Savers closed their doors in 2019. The plaza is home to Stop & Shop, Ocean State Job Lot, FunCity, Rocky’s, and others. No timeline has been announced for the project. This would be Target's first Springfield location. The next closest location is in Holyoke at the mall. -BJ's Wholesale Club plans to occupy a new 106,000 +/- square foot space, this was formerly depicted as another strip of junior anchor spaces. The wholesale club has an existing location in Chicopee. -Hobby Lobby will occupy a 56,000 square foot space! The closest Hobby Lobby store is currently at the mall in Holyoke. -Petsmart will occupy an 18,000 square foot store space at the development. The closest Petsmart is now in Chicopee. -La Z Boy Furniture is planned to occupy a new 15,300 square foot space next to Petsmart. La Z Boy currently operates a comfort studio in West Springfield; its unclear how this would be affected by the new location. -Smaller tenants that are shown in the project's lease plan include Carter's, Skechers, Chipotle, Chick Fil A, and BJ's Gas. More retail space is available in 4 other multi-tenant buildings to be part of the development. According to the marketing flyer, the development will open in Fall 2025 with Target and BJ's Wholesale as the main anchors! The Sears portion of the property is privately owned and is not part of this project. The site was once home to the Eastfield Mall. A notable change since our last update is the removal of a number of depicted tenants including Old Navy, Burlington, Five Below, EbLens (now closed), and Ulta. It's unclear if their deals fell apart or if they found location elsewhere. See the marketing flyer below. Your browser does not support viewing this document. Click here to download the document. The Place 2 Be in Springfield has been evicted from their location at Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. The trendy brunch restaurant occupied roughly 6,000 square feet including a patio and event space.
"There was an eviction today and the property owner is in control of the premises,” said B. John Dill, CEO of Colebrook Realty Services. Colebrook manages the Basketball Hall of Fame. Sheriffs from Hampden County carried out the eviction on Monday, the result of a month’s long eviction case between the owner and The Place 2 Be. “The Hampden County Sheriff’s Office carried out a court-ordered eviction of The Place 2 Be on behalf of the landlord for non-payment of rent,” said Sheriff spokesman Robert Rizzuto. “The court order was issued on Sept. 13, and despite dialogue between the landlord and tenant since then, an agreement was not reached before the final execution of the order on the morning of Monday, December 9, 2024.“ The Place 2 Be has 3 operating locations; one in Downtown Hartford, New Haven, and West Hartford. Their original of Franklin Avenue in Hartford is listed as temporarily closed. The restaurant has a bakery planned for West Hartford, a new TP2B planned for Texas, and a new Mediterranean restaurant planned for Glastonbury. The restaurant recently reopened their seafood restaurant, Raw* Bar, in Hartford. The Place 2 Be is based in Hartford, part of The Statement Group. |
