It’s the last week of Bob’s Stores in Manchester! The store will permanently close their short-lived store at The Shoppes at Buckland Hills. The closing is part of the entire chain of Bob’s Store shutting down; EMS has been sold off with 7 locations to a UK-based chain.
The store is scheduled to permanently close next Sunday. The store took over the top level of the former Dick’s Sporting Goods at the mall in late 2022 after Dick’s moved to a new location on the outskirts of the mall. The store was in the midst of a major remodel into a new prototype Eastern Mountain Sports and Bob’s Stores combo; the remodel was well underway with flooring, paint, and new fixtures being installed at the time of the closing announcement. The remodel is now cancelled. Bob’s has had a long history in Manchester. They once had a store on North Main Street, now home to Hartford Healthcare. This store closed in the 1990s when the store relocated to Hale Road. The Hale Road store was located where Urban Air is now; this store closed in 2017 in a previous bankruptcy. This latest iteration opened in 2022. EMS had two previous locations in Manchester, both at The Plaza at Buckland Hills. One is now home to Trader Joe’s and the other is home to Torrid & America’s Best Eyeglasses. No word yet on what might replace them at the mall. The mall itself has been put on the market.
