OLD SAYBROOK SCOOP: Developer submits plans for Whole Foods!

Carpionato Group, a developer, has officially submitted plans for a new Whole Foods Market in Old Saybrook!

The new grocery store would be located at 1654 Boston Post Road in Old Saybrook, the former Benny’s store. The entire plaza would receive a facelift; the plaza portion of the existing building would be retained and heavily modified.

The grocery store would anchor the plaza, with new retail tenants and a medical office planned. In October 2022 during a pre application hearing, the developer said Napa Auto Parts and Alforno’s would remain as tenants. They could be relocated to a different space in the plaza to accommodate Whole Foods; it’s unclear if this has changed in the over 2 years since first proposed.

The developer estimated last year it could take 14-16 months for construction, and cost around $16 million.
