American Freight Appliances & Furniture will be closing all of its stores after their parent company, Franchise Group, filed for bankruptcy this morning.
American Freight is a chain of discount furniture and appliance stores. The chain has 2 Connecticut locations in Newington and Derby. The stores are located at 65 Holmes Road in Newington and 656 New Haven Avenue in Derby. The store previously operated locations in South Windsor and Rocky Hill. Store closing sales will begin this week at all American Freight locations. The chain expanded quickly when the chain purchased Sears Outlet, adding over 100 locations in 2020. The chain rebranded the stores and reopened them as American Freight. Franchise Group owns a number of stores including The Vitamin Shoppe, Buddy’s Home Furnishing, and Pet Supplies Plus. The company has not announced plans to close any of those stores, only the closing of the America Freight banner.
