The Statement Group, parent company to The Place 2 Be and Raw* Bar, is facing eviction at a number of its restaurants.
-The Place 2 Be (TP2B) was recently evicted from their Springfield, MA location by Sheriffs from Hampden County. The eviction was the result of a months-long legal case regarding payment of rent. Gina Luari said recently she expects the location to reopen, once a deal is reached with the landlord. -Pita Glastonbury, a new Mediterranean restaurant planned for The Shops at Somerset Square is facing eviction due to non-payment of rent. The legal documents from the Judicial docket say Gina Luari from The Statement Group owes a total of $318,842.17 in liquidated damages, late fees, and interest. Owner Gina Luari said in a statement to Hartford Courant that the delay in construction is due to building permit issues regarding a grease trap. The restaurant was planned to replace the vacant Max Amore. -Raw Bar at 280 Trumbull Street in Downtown Hartford is facing eviction from their location. The restaurant recently reopened after a brief closing due to vandalism damage. Grunberg 280 Trumbull, LLC (the landlord) has started an eviction proceeding and a ‘Notice to Quit Possession’ against the restaurant alleging nonpayment of rent. The documents did not provide an exact amount of back rent. -The Bakery by TP2B, a bakery planned for Blue Back Square, is facing eviction. The landlord filed an ‘Affidavit of Non-Compliance with Stipulation’ alleging The Bakery has not paid $11,958.33 in rent and failed to open for business by the agreed upon September 30th. The stipulated agreement was reached after a previous eviction proceeding. The landlord is seeking possession of the space, a hearing is set for December 18th according to the Judicial docket. As of December, construction appears to be underway on the restaurant. -Two lawsuits are pending on the Judicial docket from the financing companies including Pursuit (a small-business lender) and American Express. Pursuit alleges TP2B and owner Gina Luari failed to make necessary payments on the $100,000 loan. Pursuit is seeking to foreclose on a property in East Hartford that was used as collateral for the loan. American Express is alleging TP2B, and Gina Luari failed to repay $123,562.92; they are seeking court-ordered repayment of the debt. The restaurant group has been plagued by legal troubles for the past year. A number of cases have been settled including an eviction on their Downtown Hartford location near Constitution Plaza. Raw* Bar recently reopened after a brief temporary closure, while the original The Place 2 Be on Franklin Avenue is listed as temporarily closed.
