Eastern Mountain Sports has been sold to Mountain Warehouse, a UK-based chain of outdoors stores. The new parent company has purchased the brand along with 7 of their store locations throughout the Northeast.
The chain does not appear to be keeping either of their Connecticut locations, including the EMS store that opened late last year in Danbury. The new parent company plans to keep EMS stores open in -Hadley, MA -Burlington, VT -Lake Placid, NY -Lebanon, NH -Saratoga Springs, NY -Portsmouth, NH -North Conway, NH The chain was based out of Meriden under numerous previous owners. Mountain Warehouse plans to keep the EMS branding and operate the stores alongside their Wrentham, Niagara Falls, and Aurura, IL Mountain Warehouse stores. The deal was worth an estimate $10 million. Mountain Warehouse plans to eventually expand the chain to more locations. Eastern Mountain Sports planned a significant expansion of the brand in Connecticut including new stores in Manchester and Norwalk alongside their Bob's Stores counterparts.
