The chicken finger restaurant will open at 546 Bushy Hill Road in Simsbury, an outparcel to Simsbury Commons. The restaurant was built on a parking lot next to Santander & Webster Bank. This will be Raising Cane's second location in Connecticut behind their Enfield location that opened earlier this year. A third location planned for Milford at 1455 Boston Post Road; and the chain is looking at sites in the Manchester/South Windsor area for a potential location.

RedFox Amore Italian kitchen is NOW OPEN in Middlefield! The restaurant took over the former Red Dog Saloon at 222 Meriden Road!
The restaurant is owned by Fico and Zumra Cecunjanin. The couple owns Red Fox Ct at 218 Smith Street in Middletown and Red Fox Prime Steakhouse at 39 New London Turnpike in Glastonbury. The restaurant was envisioned as a panini grill in original plans, but pivoted to the Italian Kitchen shortly after. They have transformed the former bar into a beautiful Italian oasis in Middlefield. The menu features fresh made pastas, paninis, sandwiches, seafood, salads, and much more! Make sure you check them out! There is a new outdoor gear store in Branford! Mountain Expedition Supply is a new outdoor sporting goods store located at 847 West Main Street in Branford, CT.
The new store sells shoes, clothing, sunglasses, and all the gear you could possibly need for hiking! The store carries brands like Merrell, DARN Tough, Salty Crew, Nemo Equipment, Cypher Climbing, and many more! The store is owned by Connecticut-Native Matthew E Sarracco. He served in the Hamden Fire Department as a lieutenant and high angle rescue technician for nearly 25 years. Matt has a passion for skiing, hiking, and the outdoors. Let him share his passion with you! The store will have their grand opening this Saturday, June 22nd, starting at 11 am! Make sure to check them out! The store is open Monday-Saturday 10am-6pm and Sunday 11am-4pm. Red Lobster plans to close their North Haven location at 320 Universal Drive North!
The restaurant has not set a formal closing date, they are awaiting approval to close the eatery from the bankruptcy court. Red Lobster has closed most than a hundred locations since they filed for bankruptcy in May. The chain still has CT locations in Danbury, Bridgeport, and Wethersfield. The North Haven location remains open for the time being while they await a decision from the bankruptcy court. Some fun and free activities to do around Hartford! I had a chance to check out The Museum of Connecticut History and Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Arch in Hartford, they are open to the public and free for all.
-The Museum of Connecticut History is located at 231 Capitol Avenue, inside the Connecticut Supreme Court building! The museum highlights Connecticut’s history including the original charter, Colt gun collection, CT made products from throughout the years, and much more. The museum is free and is open Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm. -Right around the corner is the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Arch at Bushnell Park. The arch was constructed in 1886, designed by architect George Keller. The arch sits at the end of the bridge that spans the now buried Park River. The arch is open for free tours on Thursdays from 12pm-1:30pm during May-October. The tours are run by volunteers. While those plans work there way through approvals and funding, there are still many local businesses that are still open inside the mall!
There are some changes coming to Enfield Square Mall in Enfield including new shops and some relocations! These join the many local businesses inside including SSUPhoto, LA Subs, Kebab House, D Gym, Pelley Sports, and many more! New shops and relocations include: -Quest VR Lounge is nearing completion in center court! The new VR lounge features individual player booths with spectator seating. Look for them to open soon! -Vicki’s Diaper Cakes is NOW OPEN near Kebab House! The store sells decorative cakes made of diapers and other baby items! -Haven Games and Hobbies has relocated to a new space in the mall! The table top game store and arena moved across from Party City and has expanded their offerings! -The Moon Crystal has relocated to center court! The crystal shop took over the former Bath & Body Works space. -Stateline Video Games has relocated their store into their party space and expanded their offerings! They still have the party room in the space. -FUNBOX will be opening the World’s largest bounce park in the Sears parking lot! The temporary set up will be open June 28th-September 15th. The restaurant replaces Bake Culture next door to Starbucks in the Foxwoods Resort Casino’s mall! The small eatery sells Hawaiian-style poke bowls and boba tea. They are open Sunday-Thursday 11am-8pm and Friday-Saturday 11am-11pm. Check them out in suite 902 of Tanger Outlets! The franchise was first announced in January 2023. The restaurant currently has 47 locations throughout the United States and 12 locations throughout Connecticut with new locations coming soon in Danbury, Shelton, Milford, and North Haven. Three new businesses are coming soon to The Shops at Farmington Valley! A new eyewear company and medspa are planning new Canton locations.
-Warby Parker. the national eyewear company, is coming soon to the outdoor shopping center! The eyewear company currently has 5 locations including at Westfarms Mall in Farmington, Greenwich, Darien, New Haven, and Norwalk. The retailer has another location opening soon in Danbury. They are expected to open before the end of 2024. -Vio Med Spa is coming soon to the outdoor shopping center as well. The med spa has over 40 locations throughout the country, with more coming soon. Vio recently partnered with GoSaga, Inc to bring the concept to multiple sites throughout Connecticut, with Canton being the first! They are expected to open before the end of 2024. -sweetgreen is coming soon to the old Coldwater Creek space at the outdoor mall! The saladbar will be making their Hartford area premier in the newly demised space! No timeline has been announced for the opening. These businesses join the other 45+ businesses that call The Shops at Farmington Valley home. They will join other Avella’s italian take out will be relocating their Middletown eatery!
The Italian Restaurant will be moving out of their location at 232 William Street into the former Roma Pizza space at 871 Newfield Street. The shop serves pizza, pasta, italian breads, build-your-own dinner plates, and much more. The restaurant will be joining forces with the owner's cousin at Melilli Caffe & Grill to expand the business into a traditional Italian Market. The new space will feature the restaurant's menu, but will also feature a deli counter, Italian goods, breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and imported Italian coffee. Comment below! -Bistro 143 has been sold and has closed their doors while transitioning to the new owners. Bistro 143 at 143 Oxford Road has been sold to Rose's Family Restaurant, a restaurant currently located at 35 Old State Road. Rose's is expected to move their restaurant into the space later this year. Bistro 143's owner also operate Pies & Pub in Middlebury, gift cards can still be used there.
-Haven Hot Chicken is officially opened at Quarry Walk in Oxford! The new chicken restaurant is located in a new outbuilding near Quarry Coffee Co. They are open Monday-Sunday 11am-10pm. The restaurant's address is 202 Main Street, Oxford, CT. -Bloom Kitchen & Co. will be opening later this year next door to Haven Hot Chicken! The new restaurant will serve all the typical Mexican favorites including tacos, burritos, bowls, and more! They will be opening very soon! The struggling retailers have announced the planned closure of 10 stores including Bob's Stores in Hamden and Southington. No Eastern Mountain Stores in Connecticut have been announced to close. They will also close stores in Burlington MA, Manchester NH, Deptford NJ, Freeport ME, Hyannis MA, East Albany NY, Springfield NJ, and Freehold NJ. The retailers announced plans to layoff nearly 150 staff members from their shared distribution and corporate headquarters in Meriden. The retailer is working to find financing to stay in business. Eastern Mountain's website came back online on 06/11, but went back offline today, 06/12. Pizza Works - Old Saybrook will be opening a new second location in Madison!
Pizza Works will open Pizza Works T•O•O Take Out Only at 1306 Boston Post Road in Madison, CT, the former Nick's Famous Pizza space! The new take-out only restaurant will be located across from Lenny & Joe's Fish Tale. The pizza place has been a staple of Old Saybrook since the current owners purchased the pizza shop in 2019. The pizza place is located in Saybrook Junction at 455 Boston Post Road, a plaza adjacent to the train station. Make sure you check them out when they open! Jimmy Seas Pan Pasta - Avon has reversed course and will remain open according to their latest social media post!
The Italian restaurant announced last Friday that they would be closing permanently on Sunday, June 9th. Thankfully, due to an immense outpour from the community, they will remain in business at 320 West Main Street in Avon. We wish them good luck in the future with their Avon location! The Italian restaurant opened to much fanfare on December 18th, 2023 at 320 West Main Street in Avon. The restaurant serves seafood and pasta by the pan-full. The menu features such classics as Fettuccini Alfredo, Lobster Ravioli, Shrimp Scampi, and more. The eatery has 2 other locations, one on Martha's Vineyard and the other in Loon Mountain, NH. The restaurant invites patrons to visit this weekend for one more meal, they will close permanently after service this Sunday (06/09.) The Italian restaurant opened to much fanfare on December 18th, 2023 at 320 West Main Street in Avon. The restaurant served seafood and pasta by the pan-full. The menu features such classics as Fettuccini Alfredo, Lobster Ravioli, Shrimp Scampi, and more. The eatery has 2 other locations, one on Martha's Vineyard and the other in Loon Mountain, NH. This was the first location in Connecticut. It's a sad ending to the short-lived restaurant. I worked on the initial architectural plans for the restaurant when they first planned the Avon location roughly 2 1/2 years ago. Sad to see them close after such a short period. Wishing the owner much luck with his other two locations! FUNBOX, the world's largest bounce park, is coming soon to Enfield Square Mall! The temporary outdoor inflatable park will be located in the parking lot near the former Sears.
Funbox is 25,000 square feet of inflatable fun. The describe the event the set us as '25,000 sq. ft. of continuous jumping zones connecting 10 different play areas. This play area was designed with a kid-first, social media -second approach. Its fun for adults too, with tons of photos ops!' Ticket sales will begin shortly. Tickets to their Funbox in Milford cost between $20-24 for 90 minutes in the attraction depending on if its a weekday or weekend. The event is tentatively scheduled to be open from June 28th through September 15th. Twisted Sugar Cake Design will be opening their doors very soon at 756 Colonel Ledyard Highway in Ledyard, CT.
The new bakery will open shortly in a newly renovated space in the plaza. The bakery will feature custom cakes, cupcakes, and more. The new shop is an expansion of the bakery that had previously operated without a storefront. The bakery will be owned by Joanna Thomas, a Gales Ferry resident. Look for them to open very soon! They are currently doing their final inspections on the space including their new commercial kitchen! More restaurants are on the way to The Waypointe complex in Norwalk! A new BBQ chain and diner will soon make the complex their home!
-Mighty Quinn's Barbeque is planning to open their first CT location at 11 Merwin Street in Norwalk, in the former Bobby Q's Cue and short-lived Lechon Smokehouse. The chain currently has 13 locations total located throughout NY, NJ, MD, and FL. Bobby Q's opened in 2017 and closed in 2021 after the owner Bob LeRose passed away. Lechon Smokehouse opened in early August 2023 and closed in late August or early September. No timeline has been announced for their opening. The diner is a fan-favorite in Stamford and has been featured on Food Network, Delish, and more. The diner features typical diner-food including burgers, milkshakes, sandwiches, and much more. Woody's Coffee & Ice Cream is coming soon to Cromwell! The new shop will open at 319 Main Street in Cromwell, the old Impact Martial Arts space.
The coffee and ice cream shop will be opening in July. They are transforming the former Dojo into a retro ice cream shop! The restaurant will be owned by Woodrow and Jessica Dudley, Middletown residents. They are now hiring for baristas and ice cream-istas, stop by June 17-21 from 4-7 to apply! A new clothing store and a sports medicine clinic are coming soon, while 3 restaurants owned by a single restaurateur have closed their doors amid a disagreeement with the landlord.
-J Crew Factory has signed a lease for the former Victoria Secrets space at the shopping plaza. The outlet version of the clothing store chain will occupy 5,587 square feet next door to Starbucks. This will be the fifth J Crew Factory location in Connecticut; they have existing locations in West Hartford, Clinton, Westbrook, and Danbury. -Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Centers will be opening a new office in the former Petland location in the plaza. The physical therapy clinic has a location across the street called PT for Life that is expected to close when the new location opens. The clinic will occupy 3,478 square feet. -Lucas Local Land & Sea Grille, Mission Salad, and Monty's Downtown have all closed their doors. Lucas Local restaurant opened in 2017 in Newtown before moving to Southbury Green in 2021, the restauarant was joined at the same time by their sister restaurants in the same development. The restaurants were owned by restaurateur Vincent Cappelletti. The closure came after a disagreement with landlord Regency Centers. The restaurant owner said he has no doubt he will reopen elsewhere in the future.
